KUT is accepting applications for radio and music internships. The station is interested in aspiring radio journalists and students who are familiar with public radio and would like to give it a try. All internships are unpaid but provide an excellent opportunity for credit and great work experience for your resume.

KUTX MUSIC INTERNSHIP
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR: We seek applicants who are self-motivated, eager to learn and who love radio as a distinctive medium for introducing audiences to new and unusual arts, ideas, voices and sounds.
JOB DUTIES: To perform technical and clerical duties related to radio operations and productions. Set up green room for studio guests. Assist producer with post-productions and duplications. Other duties as assigned.
INTERNSHIP CYCLE: September-December, January-May, June-August.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: August (September), December (January), May (June).

- What experience do you have working with computers, sound recording, and digital audio editing? (There are no prerequisites for KUT “Live” music production internships, but we find it helpful to know something of your technical background.)

Applications are due two months before each internship cycle when we begin to interview finalists. Interns are selected no later than one month before the start of the upcoming internship cycle.
KUT NEWS INTERNSHIPS FOR JOURNALISM STUDENTS
KUT News is accepting applications for internships. The station is interested in aspiring journalists and students who are familiar with public radio and would like to give it a try. We have internships available in several areas: with the daily news show “Texas Standard; with the KUT daily newsroom; and with multimedia. See below for a description of the different opportunities.
KUT’s daily news show “Texas Standard:”
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR: We seek 3rd year, 4th year, or grad students in journalism who are self-motivated, eager to learn, web-savvy, have a passion for news, and who love radio as a distinctive medium for introducing audiences to new and unusual ideas, voices and sounds. Previous training in news writing and audio production are a plus. An internship can be done for course credit, if needed.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO: Job duties for the internship are varied. We provide training on the basics of using recording equipment, digital editing, and posting stories online. Interns are often assigned to conduct phone interviews for news stories; assist reporters in research for stories; write news copy for on air scripts and web posts; update the website as necessary; and additional duties related to the production of a daily news show.
KUT’s Newsroom:
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR: We seek 3rd year, 4th year, or grad students in journalism who are self-motivated, eager to learn, web-savvy, and have a passion for news. Previous training in news writing, digital/web work, and/or audio production is a plus. KUT daily newsroom interns must be enrolled in a college or university in Central Texas. An internship can be done for course credit, if needed.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO: For the Spring 2016 semester, KUT is looking for interns to help boost our web presence and content. Our interns will focus on research, interviews, writing, and reporting to produce ongoing resources (such as topic pages) for our online audience. Interns will also be asked to conduct interviews and gather tape via phone or in-person events for daily turnaround news stories as needed.
WHEN YOU GET TO DO IT: KUT news interns are asked to put in 12 hours a week in the newsroom. We have daily 4- or 8-hours shifts available Monday-Friday. If selected, we will work out shifts and times that best fit your schedule. Interns keep the same weekly schedule for the entire semester.

KUT/X Multimedia:
Description of internship: The KUT/KUTX Multimedia internship gives prospective candidates the opportunity to work within a true multimedia environment. Working with the KUT/KUTX staff, interns are given assignments that range from photo coverage of news events to music videos shot all over Austin. Interns are encouraged to think “outside of the box” and find innovative ways to use current and future technologies, equipment, and media to tell journalistically sound stories. The KUT/KUTX internship is a safe environment for students to experiment and push themselves to grow as multimedia journalists. Our staff is directly engaged with the interns and give regular feedback and critiques. Interns are expected to be self motivated and pro-active participants in the internship.
Requirements: Prospective interns must have a thorough understanding of what we do at KUT/KUTX and how they can benefit from the internship. Interns must also have some level of demonstrated experience with video and photo gear and software. DSLR cameras and lenses are not provided.
