LIFE SKILLS FOR TEENS IN TRANSITION PROGRAM
We are looking for three to four motivated and independent students to create a program that fills a need in the community. If selected, the intern will be part of a team creating and potentially implementing a life skills program for homeless youth in the Austin community. The program will emphasize basic cooking and food literacy, and include components of professionalism, food safety, and budgeting. Guest speakers from the Austin food industry will be scheduled. Initially, the program will be life skills centered, with the potential to add culinary job training to the curriculum. The classes will take place at churches in the West Campus area, but the program itself is not religiously affiliated. Interns will work under a Micah 6 social worker and Kelly Barnhill CCN, MBA.
The ideal candidate is motivated, compassionate, able to work independently, has experience in food service or is interested in cooking, and is a nutrition or social work major. Experience teaching and writing curriculum is a plus.
The team will work at The Johnson Center for Child Health and Development [1700 Rio Grande, 4th floor] for curriculum building portion of the program. Intern hours can be scheduled between 8am and 3pm M-F for fall semester. Possibility to continue through spring semester. Students can customize their hours around their class schedule.
