Position: Girlstart Event & Volunteer Intern

About Girlstart
Founded in 1997, Girlstart is one of the few non-profit, community-based informal education programs in the nation specifically dedicated to empowering and equipping K-12 girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). We accomplish this by developing innovative models and processes for teaching STEM and delivering STEM and STEM integrated education programs.
Internship Description
Interns will assist the Director of Volunteers with events such as our Girls in STEM Conference, a one-day conference for girls in the 4th-8th grades. Throughout the day, girls attend hands-on workshops led by women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields. Interns will assist the Director of Volunteers in coordinating workshops, recruiting potential speakers and ultimately playing a large role in the overall event preparation, management and logistical organization. In addition to our Girls in STEM Conference, interns will help manage volunteer tasks as well as with various program needs.
Requirements
People skills are a must. You must be able to juggle multiple projects and work in a fast paced environment. Interns are expected to act as hosts for presenters at the conference, manage high-stress situations with ease, and oversee a team of volunteers to ensure as smooth of an event as possible.
Responsibilities:
Extensive Researching
Updating volunteer database
Communicate with volunteers
Assist with materials, activities, and communication for programs
Help contribute to website content
Other duties as needed
Days and Times:
Available 10 hours per week and must be available for our Girls in STEM Conference (April 22, 2017).
