Girls Empowerment Network (GENaustin)- 2 Summer Internships Available

Pathfinder Intern

Purpose: Pathfinder Interns will assist in various aspects of delivering the Girls Empowerment Network’s Pathfinder Leadership Summit, a personal and professional leadership development program for young women in high school. Interns can expect to gain experience in leadership and mentoring. Interns will also have the opportunity to learn alongside program participants from experts in various fields of career development and leadership.

The Pathfinder Leadership Summit is a week-long summer program that helps young women uncover their strengths, develop skills like interviewing and public speaking, explore different industries and professions, and gain access to women leaders — all with the support of like-minded peers and college-aged role models.

Location: Training and programming will be held at GEN, 3000 S IH 35, Suite 400, 78704.

Length of Appointment and Time Commitment:

 Pathfinder Internship Training: Wednesday, June 7 – Friday, June 9.

 Participation in full Pathfinder Leadership Summit, held Monday, June 12- Saturday, June 17.

Key Responsibilities:

 Serve as mentor for a group of 5-8 high school students during the week-long Pathfinder Leadership Summit.

 Develop and lead team building activities and large group ice breakers that promotes bonding and connection among high school participants.

 Lead small group discussions, facilitate workshops as assigned, assist in coordinating projects, and answer questions/provide insight about college throughout the Pathfinder Leadership Summit.

Reports to: Project Manager

Compensation: This is a volunteer intern position.

Skills/Qualifications

 Applicants must be professional, responsible, team oriented self-starters who have a positive attitude.

 Applicants must currently be attending an institute of higher education or be a recent graduate.

 Must be committed to the goals/mission of Girls Empowerment Network.

 Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 Must have reliable transportation.

Direct Service Intern

Purpose: The Direct Service Intern will assist staff with co-facilitation of programs within the Girls Empowerment Network (GEN). They will work with a diverse group of girls in the Central Texas area and work in a team oriented environment. The Intern can expect to gain valuable group facilitation skills, learn outreach techniques, and gain knowledge about social-emotional programming..

Location: GEN’s main office, 3000 S IH 35, Suite 400, 78704

Key Responsibilities:

 Assist in the implementation of all GEN programs, including: clubGEN, 180, Girl Talk Workshops, GirlConnect, We Are Girls Conference, Pathfinder, and Summer Camps.

 Co-facilitate a minimum of 4 groups/week, including 180 and clubGEN groups.

 Conduct intake, assessment, and provide referrals to participants when appropriate.

 Oversee logistical details of groups, such as recruiting participants and making reminder calls to participants.

 Attend community events in representation of GEN.

 Conduct bi-weekly reports for groups.

Reports to: Program Coordinator

Length of Appointment: Semester

Time Commitment: Flexible, depending upon number of hours desired for credit. Minimum 10 hours/week maximum 32 hours/week. A few evening and weekend hours will be required.

Compensation: This is a volunteer intern position with college credit available.

Skills/Qualifications

 Applicants must be professional, creative, team oriented self-starters who have an eye for detail and a positive attitude.

 Applicants must have obtained or are actively pursuing a degree in counseling, social work, or related field.

 Must be committed to the goals/mission of GEN and social justice.

 Must have reliable transportation.

 Must be available to run afterschool programs on some weekdays.
