Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas provided more than 60,000 hours of one-to-one mentoring to 1,000 children in Central Texas throughout 2016. For more than 45 years, we have matched children, ages 6-16, with supportive adult mentors who build friendships and offer encouragement and support to each child.
Development/Special Events Intern
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
The Development Team of BBBS CTX is seeking two interns for the summer 2017 semester who can work a minimum of 15 hours per week. This position will work closely with the Special Events Manager and the VP of Development to help plan and coordinate the agency’s signature gala, 3rd party events and programmatic events. This is an unpaid internship but is an exceptional opportunity to gain development, marketing and event planning experience at a nationally-recognized non-profit. We can work with your institution to give you academic credit for your experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Development Intern’s specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
· Assist in the planning and coordination of the Ice Ball – August 26, 2017.
· Assist with phone calls and mailings to past donors/attendees.
· Assist with cold-calling and donation asks.
· Work with staff and volunteers to collect/solicit in-kind donations for day-of-event.
· Enter all donations in event database.
· Assist with day-of-event volunteer recruitment and management.
· Attend some committee meetings.
· Help with the promotion of the event.
· Help coordinate day-of-event logistics (scheduling, décor, set-up, etc.)
· Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicant must be a recent graduate or student working toward a degree in Social Work, Communications, Sociology, Public Relations, Marketing or related field.
Exceptional written and verbal communications skills, and attention to detail
Ability to organize time, set priorities, and meet deadlines
Attention to detail and accuracy
Strong computer skills (Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Marketing Intern
Job Description
Seeking a volunteer/intern to work in the Marketing department of a well-established local non-profit 15-20 hrs. per week. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas changes children’s lives by establishing one-on-one mentoring relationships.
This unpaid position provides an opportunity to learn about nonprofit marketing and communications while contributing to the marketing efforts of an established nonprofit organization in a meaningful way.
Primary Duties:
· Assist with the development and implementation of a new agency website.
· Write, edit and proofread stories, web content, articles and other marketing material
· Update and maintain existing websites
· Assist with ongoing and event-related social media responsibilities
· Assist with other projects as required
Skills Desired:
· Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills
· Exceptional organizational and project management skills
· Attention to detail
· Ability to take direction and to contribute ideas
· Familiarity with HTML and WordPress
· Familiarity with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest
· Desirable: Familiarity with Mail Chimp, Classy, and Raiser’s Edge. Familiarity with Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. Familiarity with photography and video production.
· Posting content, including videos and images, to social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram…)
· Loading videos and images to YouTube and Flickr
