Boys and Girls Clubs Fellowship- Spring 2018

 Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area (BGCAA Fellow)

 

STATUS: Unpaid, College Credit

DEPARTMENT: Resource Development and Marketing

REPORTS TO: Vice President of Resource Development and Marketing

HOURS: 10 – 20 hours per week, flexible schedule

DURATION: Spring 2018

LOCATION: Main Office, 5407 N I-35, Suite 402, Austin, TX 78723

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area is proud to announce the availability of an exciting fellowship with the Austin, Texas office for the Fall semester for those college students seeking to learn more about the nonprofit industry. Only students seeking class credit will be considered, as this is an unpaid internship.

The BGCAA Fellow is a great opportunity for someone looking for a career in nonprofit management, corporate sponsorships, resource development, special events and communications field to serve in a vital role to support the mission of BGCAA. Candidate must be energetic, self-motivated, a team player, results-oriented, pay attention to detail and be dedicated to the achievement of personal and team goals. This Fellowship requires a candidate with confidence in interpersonal communication, solid writing skills, attention to detail and a passion for making a difference in the lives of the youth of Austin.

The selected candidate for the Fellowship will be to support the Resource Development and Marketing team in planning, organizing and executing fundraising activities, special events and community engagements.
The specific responsibilities of the Fellow include, but not limited to, the following:

The specific responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Help plan and implement signature events, individual giving campaigns, and other marketing activities;
  • Writing and sending recognition and appreciation communications to donors;
  • Managing mailboxes and responding to inquiries;
  • Contact vendors and businesses to request bids for events and activities;
  • Contact local businesses for support – in-kind, sponsorships, third party events, gifts;
  • Maintain and update database, spreadsheets tracking all donations, expenses and vendors;
  • Attend committee meetings, record notes, send notes in follow-up emails;
  • Attend promotional events as necessary- occasional night or weekend hours;
  • Understanding and leveraging social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and SnapChat
  • Writing letters, articles and social media posts
  • Contacting and visiting local vendors and business to pick up contributions.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Ability to pass criminal background check
  • HS Diploma/GED
  • Major in a degree related to position
  • Must be receiving college credit
  • Solid writing and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, internet and e-mail

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Basic design skills (flyers/handouts, etc) are desirable;
  • Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of assignments simultaneously;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Problem solving skills and personal accountability;
  • Be a team player, able to function within a dynamic environment;
  • Have an automobile and valid driver’s license and insurance;
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs;

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position may involve lifting, (up to 10 lbs.), bending, standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, and grasping. This position may work around youth and adults with a moderate exposure to noise.  This position will work indoors.

Afterschool Program Intern- Side by Side Kids, Spring 2018

Internship Title: Side by Side Kids – Afterschool Program Intern

Purpose of the Position: The Afterschool Program Intern is responsible for supporting and further developing the afterschool program through managing special projects and researching and/or developing new program activities.

Responsibilities and Duties Summary:

● Prepare for the upcoming days and/or weeks of afterschool programming

● Process student and program data

● Provide additional support on-campus by helping with homework, leading recreation activities, curriculum, etc.

● Research, develop, and create games, worksheets, and other educational activities for students’ use upon completion of their homework

● Create and prepare curriculum, activities, games, and supplies for summer programming and special events

● Provide additional support for students during special program weeks such as Arts Week, Service Week, Technology Week and Showcase Week

● Assist with curriculum development as needed

● Support Site Coordinators with any of the following administrative tasks: data entry, supply closet maintenance, file organization, shredding, event planning, etc.

● Attend weekly meetings with SBSK staff and Crew Leaders

● Coordinate with other interns, Crew Leaders, volunteers, and staff, as needed

● All other duties assigned

Time Involvement Required: This position is a part-time internship with 10-20 hours per week. Hours will flex to accommodate some morning, evening, and weekend activities. The term of this position is for one school semester.

Work Site: The Afterschool Program Intern will report to the SBSK Support Center, the assigned elementary schools, and various sites within the community.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

● Interest in youth and afterschool programming and understanding of its positive impact to the community it serves

● Excellent writing and editing skills

● Excellent interpersonal and relational skills

● Experience using Microsoft Office products and Google Drive

● Excellent organizational skills and an eye for detail

● Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required

Additional Qualifications:

● Be a Christ-follower and communing member of the body of Christ

● Understand, agree, and promote SBSK values (found at http://www.sidebysidekids.org/our-mission)

● Understand, agree with, and be comfortable teaching a Christ-centered curriculum that communicates the Gospel on a daily basis

Volunteer Department Intern- Side By Side Kids, Spring 2018
