Internship with the Blanton

 

POSITION: Art of the Spanish Americas Intern
DEPARTMENT: Latin American Art
HOURS: 160 hrs. per semester
COMPENSATION: Unpaid

DESCRIPTION:
This position will be developed in the context of the long-term loan of the Thoma Collection of South American Colonial art to the Blanton. It is an exciting and challenging opportunity to learn about the wide range of curatorial needs of an art museum for this specific period. Intern will provide assistance with current projects such as the fourth rotation of the Art of the Spanish Americas Galleries and Painted Cloth, a major temporary exhibitions that deal with the depiction of civil and religious attire in different media. The Intern also will help coordinate the visits of two scholars that will be on campus to deliver public talks. The Intern will also be involved in tracing provenance of some of the pieces on loan and those recently donated by the Cisneros Foundation of Venezuelan Colonial art and items recently purchased from the Huber collection. This internship is a chance to gain valuable research and organizational experience and add real world projects to the intern’s portfolio.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently pursuing the BDP program in Museum Studies
  • Excellent writing, editing & proofreading skills
  • Reading comprehension of Spanish (Oral Proficiency is certainly desirable)
  • Interest in the Colonial Latin America
  • Majors in Art History, History, Religious Studies, Spanish, and Latin American Studies are particularly encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to those students pursuing the Emphasis on Visual and Material Culture of Colonial Latin America offered by the BDP

DUTIES (include, but are not limited to):

  • Assist with the organization and installation of the upcoming rotation of the Art of the Spanish Americas Galleries, and help in research for upcoming temporary exhibitions (proof reading labels will also be required)
  • Assist with the visit of scholars that will be on campus to deliver public talks (travel arrangements, publicity)
  • Assist with the visit of the Thoma scholars (travel arrangements, campus directions)
  • Assist with filing maintaining archival material for the museum’s records (research provenance of artworks)

Internship with Well Aware

Well Aware currently offers a position as social media intern. You will be devoted to all of our media channels (facebook, twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn…); this includes assisting in content and creation. Social Media Intern must be available a minimum of 10 hours per week.

Overview of Well Aware’s Internship program

Well Aware’s internship program is designed to provide undergraduate and graduate students with an educational experience in implementation of clean water systems in Africa; community development, training and education in Well Aware project regions; development and/or organization and administration of Well Aware’s Austin office.

Other responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting prospect research on individual, foundation, and corporate donors
  • Maintaining donor and grant databases and files, including calendaring deadlines, logging donations, generating and sending donor acknowledgements, logging donor appreciation efforts
  • Supporting staff with logistics associated with special events, including assisting with creation of invitation list, all logistics, soliciting sponsors, communicating with venue and vendors
  • Attending/Volunteering at special events
  • Tracking and evaluating all development efforts
  • Working with Board of Directors Development Committee to implement development strategies

Ideal Candidates Must:

  • Be responsible, flexible, hard‐working, ethical, and committed to the mission of Well Aware
  • Possess a high level of organizational skills and be detail oriented
  • Possess solid oral and written communication skills
  • Be skilled at a variety of computer skills, e.g., Google Drive, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat
  • Be able to operate standard office equipment
  • Able to handle multiple task at one time
  • Possess an interest in a nonprofit career ‐ particularly development and fundraising
  • Available for at least 10 hours a week

Second Day Impact Fellowship

Do you want to professionally do well for yourself and do good for the world? So does Second Day. This organization is committed to putting the best minds to work on the problems that matter.
