Internship & Volunteer Opportunities with Texas Archeological Research Laboratory

The Texas Archeological Research Laboratory (TARL) at UT Austin offers unpaid internships and volunteer opportunities for students and community volunteers. TARL hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Volunteers are used in areas of greatest need and best fit to their skills, interests and ability to learn new tasks. Volunteers are scheduled around the students receiving credit for their work. There is limited lab space, so limitations apply. Due to the high demand for intern positions, a waiting list is a common occurrence.

Craven + Co. Spring 2020 Internship

Craven + Co., a local event production and design company here in Austin, has an internship available for Spring 2020. Below is the description:

Job Purpose:

Craven + Co. Event Production Agency is looking for an enthusiastic intern to come on board from January – April to learn and help with the 2020 Spring Season. We are a close-knit team passionate about producing impeccable + exciting events. Craven + Co. has successfully navigated and helped shape the Austin event scene for over 20 years.

What you will learn/gain:

  • How to create compelling + informative vision boards for clients.
  • Experience producing social media posts with trackable data results.
  • How to request accurate orders from event vendors such as rental companies and caterers.
  • How to conduct site visits and create event layouts.
  • Help to prepare timelines and documentation for event management staff.
  • Catalog event supplies + organize inventory.
  • Assist on-site on event days to see how the whole show is run + how to make the most helpful impact.

Qualifications:

  • An enthusiastic interest in Social Media Marketing.
  • Proactive problem solving skills with a strong interest in event planning.
  • Strong attention to detail with an emphasis in design + writing.
  • Ability to work in high stress environments while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Google Suite

Summer 2020 Union Scholars Internship Program

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) is currently recruiting undergraduate sophomores and juniors into their Social Justice summer 2020 internship program, the Union Scholars Program.

The Union Scholars Program is a joint program between AFSCME and Harvard University.  AFSCME, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees is one of the largest labor unions, fighting for workers’ rights, fighting against privatization, and fighting for equality.  AFSCME represents over 1.4 million public service workers.  We all have a family member who is: a child care provider, nurse, sanitation worker, emergency medical technician-these are all public service jobs that we fight to protect and provide every day.

The Union Scholars Program is a 10-week summer internship where students get a chance to gain hands-on organizing experience with our members.  Students get a glimpse of what it’s like to be part of and even work for a labor union.  Students will talk to workers about gaining a voice on the job, fair wages and benefits, and building power in the workplace.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize on a campaign, under the direction of your Supervisor and mentor
  • Workplace visits
  • House visits
  • Complete Weekly Reports (to be submitted to Program Coordinator)
  • Submit videography footage  (to be submitted to Program Coordinator)
  • Report to and take direction from Supervisor
  • Collaborate with mentor on projects

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate Sophomore or Junior
  • Person of Color (here for details)
  • At least a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • A valid driver’s license

Benefits:

  • $4000 Stipend
  • Up to $6000 scholarship, based on financial aid need
  • Paid housing
  • Paid transportation
