Social Media Content Creation Intern
COMPANY OVERVIEW:
HealthStart’s mission is to provide the blueprints for building healthier communities through children’s health science education. We teach kids how their body works, what it is made of and how this relates to what to eat and how to keep their bodies healthy. HealthStart lessons also teach kids that taking care of one another and our environment builds community health and wellbeing.
HealthStart seeks an intern interested in building a healthier future for our children by helping us create social media content to amplify our message and magnify our impact. Our Social Media Content Creation Intern will gain experience in a variety of tasks that include creating original content, media and community outreach, and implementing a marketing/public relations strategy.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
HealthStart’s part-time Social Media Content Creation Intern will have highly developed organizational skills, time management, and creative talents. Interns work 12-15 hours per week under the supervision of our Communications Coordinator.
You will be part of a team shaping HealthStart’s message through social media that may include weekly Facebook and Instagram posts, monthly email correspondence, marketing campaigns designed to inform and attract supporters and related tasks. Projects you will help with the marketing of include our Snack Science Video Series and Snack Science: Cooking With Kids Gala. All of these experiences should be highly transferable to a professional work environment.
Job responsibilities will include:
- Raising HealthStart’s profile and brand awareness
- Create and edit original marketing content, blog posts, and social media posts that engage audiences across multiple channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Identify real-time trends & translate to social media opportunities.
- Researching articles and information related to the subject matter to include in blog posts
- Working with the HealthStart team to understand and execute marketing strategy
- Working with HealthStart’s Marketing, Communications Committee, and other interns as a team
- Other marketing and communications related tasks as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for the position must have experience/familiarity with social media marketing, public relations, communications or related activities. A strong interest in social entrepreneurship, health and wellness or early childhood education is preferred. Experience in blog writing is a plus. Must be familiar with basic computer operations including MS WORD, EXCEL, and the Internet specifically social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, etc.
In addition, candidates should have some or all of the following skills:
- A willingness to learn new things or new ways of doing things
- Ability to meet deadlines with little or no daily onsite supervision
- Attention to detail
- Excellent written communication skills
- Responsive to feedback
- Enthusiasm about making a difference
- Bilingual Preferred

Grant Development Intern

HealthStart seeks an intern interested in building a healthier future for our children by helping us streamline the grant proposal process to increase resources and magnify our impact. Our Grant Development Intern will gain understanding in the grant proposal process, fund development, and non-profit development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Health Start is currently seeking a part-time Grant Development Intern with highly developed organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong research skills. Interns work 12-15 hours per week under the supervision of our Executive Director.
Job Responsibilities
- Take existing HealthStart documents from previous grant proposals and review/organize those items needed for each program. (ie. Research, Budget, Program Descriptions, etc.)
- Perform in-depth research into grant-making organizations and requirements.
- Develop a grant template for each HealthStart program/initiative to enable an easy grant submission process at the local, state, and federal level.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for the position should have a strong interest in or prior experience with fund development, nonprofit development, or related activity. Knowledge of the grant process is a plus. A strong interest in health and wellness or early childhood education is preferred. Must be familiar with basic computer operations including MS WORD, EXCEL, and the Internet and Adobe Creative Suite.
In addition, candidates should have some or all of the following skills:
- Quick Study

Digital Marketing Strategist Intern

Our Digital Marketing Strategist Intern will gain experience in a variety of tasks that include media and community outreach, developing marketing/public relations strategies, and non profit development.

HealthStart seeks a part-time Digital Marketing Strategist Intern with highly developed organizational skills, time management, and creative talents. Interns work 12-15 hours per week under the supervision of our Executive Director.

- Raising HealthStart’s profile and brand awareness
- Developing a strategy to maximize the impact of our social media and other digital marketing campaigns working with our Google AD Grant team
- Assist in developing digital marketing strategies and campaigns around events
- Crafting innovative account based marketing campaigns and assist in analyzing and reporting campaign results
- Prospecting & following social media accounts to identify influencers
- Review online content to ensure SEO maximization through the use of keywords, #tags, and other strategies
- Work directly with HealthStart’s Marketing and Communications Committee
- Other marketing and communications related tasks as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for the position must have work or volunteer experience, and/or course work in public relations, communications, digital marketing, nonprofit development or related activities. A strong interest in health and wellness or early childhood education is preferred. Curriculum Specialist/Health Promotions Intern

HealthStart lessons also teach kids that taking care of one another and our environment builds community health and wellbeing.
HealthStart seeks an intern interested in building a healthier future for our children by ensuring our curriculum meets national and state standards for PreK-1st grade for science and health or health science. By doing so you will make it easier for schools to incorporate health science into their learning environment. Our Curriculum Specialist/Health Promotions Intern will gain experience in curriculum development, educational standards, and non profit work.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
HealthStart seeks a part-time Curriculum Specialist/Health Promotion intern with highly developed organizational skills, time management, and research skills. Interns work 12-15 hours per week under the supervision of our Executive Director. This is a project-based internship where you will assess and align our Health Education For Youngsters (HEY!) curriculum with national and state standards. This experience should be highly transferable to jobs involving curriculum development, program development, evaluation, and health education or primary education.
Job responsibilities will include:
- Update HealthStart’s analysis and alignment of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Pre-K – 1st grade health and science education standards with our HEY! Curriculum as needed using our existing TEKS assessment template.
- Assess HealthStart’s HEY! Curriculum to determine how/if it meets the National Common Core State Standards
- Evaluate and identify specific lessons from HealthStart’s HEY! curriculum that align with educational standards and present findings.
- Develop materials that will help HealthStart speak to our competencies in health science education.
- Assess HealthStart’s HEY! Curriculum to determine how/if it meets Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (HECAT) standards for PreK-1st grade
- Attend and report findings to HealthStart’s Education Committee.
