Internship Opportunity: Policy Associate

TCJC offers a dynamic and engaging internship program where students gain hands-on experience in areas related to criminal and juvenile justice policy in Texas. We are currently accepting applications for unpaid internships during the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters. Interns commit a minimum of 20 hours per week. Specific project dependent upon the applicants areas of interest and/or expertise.

TCJC & COVID-19

Location of internship is dependent on the current COVID-19 pandemic. Currently our staff members (including interns) are working remotely, but this may change in the fall. If in-person, the work will take place in our office located in Austin, TX (1714 Fortview Road, Suite 104, Austin, TX 78704). We are flexible on this as long as needs/preferences are communicated up front.

Internships Available with Project Schoolhouse

About Project Schoolhouse

Project Schoolhouse is an international nonprofit that focuses on education, clean water and sanitation in rural Nicaraguan communities. With an emphasis on community-building and local volunteer participation, Project Schoolhouse partners with recipient communities to build new schools, provide clean water, improve sanitation, and help students continue their educations.


Event Production Internship

We are currently seeking an intern at our Austin office to support our Executive Director and Development Coordinator with researching technology options and producing a high-quality virtual fundraising experience. This internship offers the opportunity to gain solid, professional experience while supporting a local non-profit that is truly changing lives.

What you will learn:

  • Virtual communication platforms
  • Film, Audio and Production technology
  • You will learn event management, execution, and logistics
  • How to manage deadlines and work collaboratively

What you will do:

  • Research virtual event/communication platforms
  • Plan and source video and sound equipment needed to present in a virtual event
  • Research how to integrate/stream video and live components into a virtual event
  • Run technology during the event

The Ideal Candidate will be:

  • Currently enrolled in related course work
  • Passionate about video and audio production technology
  • Available for a minimum of 5 and up to 10 hours weekly, particularly leading up to event in late October/early November

This is an unpaid internship with a minimum commitment of 5 hours per week beginning mid- August and ending mid-November, 2020

Communications-Social Media Internship

We are currently seeking an intern at our Austin office to support our Executive Director and Development Coordinator with social media management and content creation. This internship offers the opportunity to gain solid, professional experience while supporting a local non-profit that is truly changing lives.

What you will learn how to:

  • Manage Social Media platforms and a content calendar
  • Manage deadlines and work collaboratively
  • Work with mass emailing platforms
  • Manage a website hosting platform
  • Collaborate the Development Coordinator with social media plans and communications

What you will do:

  • Create compelling organic content for social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
  • Plan and source content for our newsletters, website blogs, and campaigns
  • Identify new ways communications for our brand
  • Update our website and manage content

The Ideal Candidate will be:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Passionate about story telling and creating a brand
  • Currently enrolled in related course work
  • Available for a minimum of 5 -7 hours weekly

Requirements: Send a short creative example that spotlights ability to write compelling content.

This is an unpaid internship with a minimum commitment of 5 hours per week beginning mid-August and ending mid-November, 2020.

Project Schoolhouse & COVID-19

In light of COVID-19, initially internships would be remote only, but we are hopeful that it will become possible to safely meet at our co-working space in central Austin (not far from campus). We are looking for students to begin their internships by the 3rd week of August.

In-person Fall Internship Available with the Dr. Pound Historical Farmstead

About the Dr. Pound Historical Farmstead

Take a step back in time and into the rich history of Dripping Springs at the Dr. Pound Historical Farmstead Museum. Nestled on five beautifully shaded, oak-filled acres, the 1854 farmstead offers a fascinating and informative glimpse into our community’s historic past. The Pound House is included on the National Register of Historic Places and has been a Texas State Historical Landmark since 1965. Visit https://drpoundfarmstead.org/ to learn more.

Internship Available: Archival Book Processor

Gently and thoroughly clean old books (wear a mask for dust and debris) supplies are provided. Should be done in the storage unit (Right Stuff storage on 290, east of Dripping Springs) so books aren’t taken home. Complete a catalog sheet for each book, listing: condition, physical appearance, any notable handwritten script inside covers, date (may need to research/Google to find this), publisher, author, title, etc. Assign the next number in order and record it on catalog sheet and inside back cover in pencil. Wrap processed books in archival paper and tie with linen ribbon, write catalog number on outside of paper near the top. Load books into archival boxes, number boxes for location purposes. Enter all info from catalog sheet into PastPerfect database on museum laptop. Instruction will be provided on how to use database. This may be done at home, intermittently or all at once at the end.

This is an unpaid position with the flexibility to be done at the student’s convenience, so no particular number of hours are required each week. A total of 160 hours is expected.

Qualifications include: absolute care in handling paper goods (technique will be taught) neatness in wrapping of books responsible for care of laptop while in student’s home, car, transit, etc. responsible for THE ONLY key to the storage unit spelling and attention to detail with respect to data entry An interest in old books makes it a decent job.

Internship & COVID-19

Training can be in-person, outside and masked, on the Pound House property. Once trained, intern will have access to materials and be able to work alone in our storage unit and remotely doing data entry.
