POSITION: Spring 2021 Nonprofit Relations & Development Intern

SUPERVISOR: Senior Manager of Nonprofit & Customer Relations; Senior Director of Development

COMPENSATION: UNPAID – Applicable for Course Credit

SCHEDULE: 10-12 hours per week, flexible

LOCATION: Remote, with weekly meeting via video conferencing

DATES: January 25, 2021 – May 14, 2021

General Description:

Every year, I Live Here I Give Here serves 750 nonprofit organizations, more than 100 corporate/foundation sponsors, and 30,000 donors across seven counties in Central Texas. We are seeking an intern who’d like to grow their skills in advancing I Live Here I Give Here’s nonprofit member relationships, as well as donor relations. The intern will support key operations leading up to and following Amplify Austin Day (March 4-5). Amplify Austin Day is I Live Here I Give Here’s signature program and the biggest day of giving in Central Texas that unites the entire community to support more than 750 local nonprofits. From health care, to social justice, to basic needs, to the environment, to pets, to the arts, and more, since 2013, the day has raised more than $69 million collectively to support our community’s most pressing needs.

In January – March, the intern will report to the Senior Manager of Nonprofit & Customer Relations and gain experience supporting nonprofits leading up to Amplify Austin Day. In March – May, the intern will report to the Senior Director of Development and gain experience producing impact reports and stewarding donors after the campaign.

This is a great learning opportunity for anyone interested in gaining insight and work experience in multiple functions of nonprofit management. You will develop skills in communications, member relations, program development, storytelling and donor stewardship.

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Learning opportunities to include but not limited to:

  • Work with a membership base of 750 Central Texas nonprofits across a variety of causes
  • Help draft and segment communications to nonprofit members to ensure all members are aware of the opportunities available to their organizations on Amplify Austin Day
  • Assist with AmplifyATX.org nonprofit profile customer support projects
  • Assist with AmplifyATX.org business fundraiser profile customer support projects
  • Help create, design and send thank you notes and emails to individual donors
  • Opportunity to learn how to produce impact reports for corporate and foundation sponsors, including gathering key metrics and writing stories
  • Assist with planning the ILHIGH Awards to celebrate Amplify Austin Day
  • Learn about the social impact sector and work alongside the team to build relationships with Austin’s nonprofit and donor community.

  • Are passionate about I Live Here I Give Here’s mission and our work
  • Have strong organizational skills, and can balance task-based work with long-term strategic projects
  • Are naturally curious and investigative, and go the extra mile to ensure accuracy
  • Excellent writing skills with a knack for storytelling and donor-centric communications
  • Customer-service oriented and a good problem solver
  • Are currently pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree

Bonus points for:

  • Nonprofit experience (either working or volunteering)
  • Have experience with Canva, InDesign or other graphic design software
  • Being customer service oriented
  • Great sense of humor

Austin Circular Economy Program Remote Internship (Spring 21)

Internship Description

Austin Resource Recovery is hiring a Circular Economy Program intern. Work for a fun and dynamic City of Austin department helping to promote the City of Austin’s Zero Waste goals. The City of Austin has a stated commitment to achieving Zero Waste, an initiative that requires new thinking about the way we buy, use and dispose of everyday items. Instead of buying brand new products, Austinites can help reduce waste by sharing or repairing items, buying used items, or donating items they no longer need.
The intern will play a critical role in implementing programming to encourage more Austinites to reduce, reuse, repair and support local businesses that offer related products and services. The position will report to a member of the Circular Economy Program (CEP).
The intern’s projects will include:
  1. Creating new content such as blog posts and newsletters to promote reuse-related activities.
  2. Event planning, volunteer management, and partnership building for CEP events, such as Fix-It Clinics and MoveOutATX.
  3. Helping maintain public-facing resources, such as the Austin Reuse Directory, Austin’s Circular Economy Map, and Enterprise Resource Guide.
  4. Tracking performance metrics for CEP initiatives.
  5. Researching, coordinating and attending community outreach & education events to promote reuse.
  6. Various administrative tasks to support CEP activities, as needed.
  7. Other projects to support reuse and zero waste in Austin according to program needs and the intern’s skillset.
Pay: $15/hour
Schedule: January 2021-August 2021 (may be extended).Up to 15 hours a week; hours between 7 and 6 pm to be mutually-determined, based on schedule
Location: Teleworking until COVID-19 restrictions allow staff to return to the office (1520 Rutherford Lane, Building 1)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced professionals
  • Willingness to apply equity lens to all aspects of job responsibilities (equity training will be provided)
  • Ability to interface with the public and community stakeholders on behalf of the City of Austin
  • Ability to be self-motivated and take initiative

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in or experience working with sustainability, zero waste, recycling, small business, and social entrepreneurship initiatives

Spring 2021 Texas Sustainability Internship

About Texas Sustainability

The Campus Sustainability Policy, adopted in April 2008, requires that policies, practices and curricula at The University of Texas at Austin strive to reduce life cycle costs, restore or maintain functioning natural systems, and enhance human well-being.

UT Austin—one of the first public institutions of higher education in Texas to rigorously focus on sustainability—continues to lead among universities by reducing waste, conserving energy and water resources, constructing green buildings and landscapes, and much more.

Sustainability at The University of Texas at Austin is the work of the Office of Sustainability, established in 2009, and numerous campus partners that work in unison to implement the Sustainability Master Plan.

Internship Description

Summary

The Office of Sustainability undergraduate intern will co-lead efforts to gather student feedback on the Sustainability Master Plan update. The Sustainability Master Plan is the university’s guiding document for campus sustainability efforts. The Office of Sustainability endeavors to solicit broad and diverse feedback from students during the planning process and is working to ensure equity is considered throughout the updated Sustainability Master Plan. The Texas Sustainability Intern may also be asked to provide support for other Office of Sustainability programs, events, and initiatives as needed.

Requirements

Must be proactive and self-motivated. Strong verbal communications skills. Comfortable interacting and communicating with students from diverse backgrounds. Enthusiasm and interest in sustainability concepts and applications. Ability to work both independently and as a team. Strong time-management skills. Scheduling availability during typical workday hours (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) to meet with office staff.

Preferred Skills/Experience

Experience leading focus groups, meetings, or other groups of peers. Basic sustainability knowledge including an understanding of the intersection of environmental and equity issues. Actively involved in the Multicultural Engagement Center or other similar campus organizations or programs.

Specific Job Functions

  • Organize, recruit for, and host focus groups with students from across campus
  • Reach out to and present on the draft Sustainability Master Plan to student organizations
  • Develop and implement other methods for gathering student feedback throughout the Sustainability Master Plan update process
  • Regularly meet with student co-lead, Office of Sustainability staff, and project faculty advisor
  • Assist with other Office of Sustainability initiatives as needed

Pay: $11/hour

Hours: 5-10hrs/week, flexible scheduling but must have some availability during typical work day (M-F, 8a-5p)

Location: Virtual

Start Date/Duration: Start date of Dec. 2020 preferred for initial on-boarding. Must commit through spring semester.
