Job Description

A Teaching Assistant (TA) at The Rise School of Austin is responsible for maintaining a healthy and safe environment at all times in the classroom and other areas within the school building. TAs will be given more responsibility throughout the school year as requested and determined appropriate by his/her supervisors. A TA is an open, assertive and effective communicator, a willing collaborator and team member, and an early childhood teacher for children of ALL abilities.

Supervisors: Lead Teacher, Teacher, and Head of School

The Rise School is seeking to fill multiple TA positions!

Minimum Responsibilities:

  • Professionalism: Follows program policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Health and Safety: Trained and comfortable performing pediatric CPR and first aid. Maintains a clean and sanitary classroom environment, follows NAEYC, TRS, and licensing standards for sanitation and cleanliness throughout the school day (3-step process).
  • Child Care: Supervise groups of 5-10 children, able to lift up to 40 pounds, engage playfully with all children under the guidance of the lead teacher and teacher, toileting and diapering. Classroom TAs are required to cover Floating TAs during their REP shifts in the event of an absence. A coverage rotation will be provided. Classroom TAs may need to cover the teacher when the teacher is absent.
  • Professional Development: Complete annual minimum standards trainings prior to the start of the school year. Participate in trainings offered during the school year on campus by therapists, administrative staff, etc. Exhibit a desire to learn more about early childhood education.
  • Team Player: Collaborate with teaching team, other teachers, therapists, and directors to grow professionally and to maintain the order and operations of the school. Assist with material and activity preparation and implementation. Must have basic office skills such as cutting, pasting, laminating, follow curricular decisions made by team and/or administration, assist with goal tracking, maintain consistency with BIPs.
  • REP Teachers (floating teaching assistants): Maintain and follow a developmentally appropriate schedule of quiet and active play. Ensure needs of feeding and toileting are met in a timely manner; plan and prepare enriching activities for a group of 5-10 children. Hours vary, but full-time hours could be 9-5pm, 9:30-5:30pm, 9:45-5:45pm. Part-time hours would be 1:45-5:45pm.
  • REP Lead Teacher: Plan, delegate the preparation, coach, and instruct REP teachers in how to implement developmentally appropriate, hands-on, and engaging activities with children (i.e. yoga, art, music, community involvement, playground or other activities as determined). Set up a system for child pick-up (sign them out of Rise care and into REP care on Brightwheel App) at 2:30pm and determine coverage for teacher absences.
  • Set up a system for a REP teacher to prepare for students, check in with teachers, and ensure safety of play area. REP student hours will be from 2:30-5:30pm.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Associates Degree in Child Development
  • Experience in a day care or childcare facility, school, or program
  • Certified in Pediatric CPR and First Aid (or willing to become certified)
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds and be physically able to be active with children (such as running, playing, sitting on the floor or playground turf)
  • Reliable transportation to and from work
  • Computer Skills: basic skills on a Mac or Microsoft platform, Microsoft Office, Zoom meetings, e-mail, etc.

UT Resource Recovery Internship (Spring 21)

About Resource Recovery

Resource Recovery is hiring Zero Waste Student Assistants for the Spring 2021 semester. Resource Recovery is a department within UT Facilities Services which encompasses both Zero Waste and Surplus Property (the Surplus REuse Store posts separately when hiring). Resource Recovery is tasked with improving sustainability at UT, specifically with regards to reaching our Zero Waste goal to divert 90% of all materials from the landfill. Major diversion strategies include source reduction, recycling, and composting. As a result, we have the opportunity to partner and observe material processes across campus.

Internship Description:

Employer: UT Resource Recovery
Position Title: Resource Recovery Team Member – Zero Waste
Compensation: $11.00/hour
Supervisor’s Name: Lindsey Hutchison, Senior Zero Waste Coordinator
You would be a member of Resource Recovery’s Student Internship Program. All of our student interns meet weekly as a team to share and learn and create synergy across our work. Team Members are not expected to have any sustainability background – only interest in learning! As you might imagine, this year our focus and tasks will remain a bit flexible depending on campus COVID conditions. Currently, you will be a lead on a project done remotely and we are working as a team on campus one day every two weeks. Remote intern projects include staff and student outreach development and tracking campus materials and data, including creating material management visualizations/maps and waste data analyses. On campus, we are rolling out our Zero Waste Workplace program in campus office and classroom buildings adhering to all safety recommendations, focusing on converting restrooms to paper towel composting and landfill trash and recycle bin pairing and labeling. Personal protective equipment and COVID-applicable safety training are provided.
The work schedule will vary based on project needs but all efforts will be made to align with student schedules. Team Meetings may occur after 5pm on a weekday. Some weekend activities may be necessary but will be scheduled in advance.
As a result of this experience, you will:
  • Have a greater knowledge of sustainability considerations with regard to waste decrease and diversion
  • Work with a variety of campus entities to achieve project goals
Qualifications:
  • Access to computer and internet in order to work and meet remotely
  • Effective time management and ability to self-motivate and work remotely/independently
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel is a plus
  • Interest and/or experience in sustainability and willingness to learn about the inner workings of recycling, solid waste, and surplus
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and represent the department well when communicating with faculty, staff, and students
  • Timely and effective communication
  • Punctual
  • Ability to produce quality work individually and in teams
  • Organized and adaptable

Operations Intern

The Operations Intern will directly assist the Operations Manager with a wide range of projects related to internal customer service, operational systems, processes and procedures in support of UWATX’s mission. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this internship program, the intern will learn how to take skills she or he may have acquired in school or former job experience, and apply them in a professional setting. He or she will gain a better understanding of the role that support services (operations, facilities, and IT) can play in a non-profit setting, and be better prepared to work in the arena of operations and the nonprofit sector. Through a variety of projects, the Operations Intern will learn the practical application of:
  • Customer service by assisting with front desk coverage, answering phones and greeting UWATX guests
  • Standard operating procedures by assisting with the development of new SOPs for UWATX
  • Knowledge management practices by assisting in building internal website operations content
  • Stakeholder management practices by assisting with fielding IT, operations and facility requests

Data Management Intern

The Data Management Intern will partner with the Systems and Operations Team on a wide range of projects related to data analytics, data cleaning, minimum data standards, inter-system communication, list management, internal customer service, knowledge management practices, and other duties as assigned. This internship is a hands-on experience, perfect for the person who loves to jump into complex problems and work their way to a solution. In this role, you will gain a better understanding of the role that data management plays in a nonprofit setting, work directly with many of the teams here at United Way ATX, and learn a whole lot about how a nonprofit operates. This is not a watch-and-learn internship: You’ll have a chance to work directly in systems and see the impact of your work across the organization.

You will get to work on these projects and more:

  • Managing email lists of multiple stakeholder groups
  • Data cleaning such as identifying and merging duplicates
  • Improving a network of multi-system collaboration
  • Working with internal stakeholders to ensure their needs are met
  • Analyzation system needs and capabilities

Mission Advancement Intern

Mission Advancement Interns will also provide administrative support to ongoing work when appropriate. Success by 6 Pre-K Language Tutor Intern

Who we want:
The Success by 6 Pre-K Language Tutor Intern will be responsible for assisting with the administrative side of professional development for program tutors, fingerprinting, and program design. As the SX6 Pre-K Language Tutor Intern you will be trained to fully understand the goals of this program and work closely with the UWATX Program Manager to implement, curriculum training, communication with partnering schools and coordinate tutor hires. This will include but is not limited to, frequent communication with tutors to provide online support with curriculum and technology, identifying and implementing procedures to streamline teacher – tutor communication, and supporting program director in implementation modification during COVID school closures.  This position will report to the Manager of Pre- K Language Tutor Program.
