LaunchPad UT Spring 2021 Internships

About LaunchPad UT

Part of the global Blackstone LaunchPad & Techstars Network, “The LaunchPad” is a program of the School of Undergraduate Studies that helps students of all backgrounds navigate and explore entrepreneurship at UT. Think of us as the Google Maps for everything entrepreneurship on campus and beyond. We are an “open door” program, such as a career services center, and any undergraduate or graduate student can contact us to learn more.

Program Overview

In Fall 2019, we launched our Innovation Fellows program and hired undergraduate students from all backgrounds to treat the LaunchPad as a startup and help us tackle real-world business challenges. While our staff sets the priorities, students drive and take ownership of their roles to build a custom entrepreneurial work experience that aligns with personal interests and goals.

Our Fellows start by writing a Success Narrative – a “story” (written in the past tense) about what a great semester looks like for them personally, academically, and professionally. We then use that as a roadmap to work backwards during the semester for accountability and to ensure that our Fellows’ work experience continues to align with their goals.

For Spring 2021, we’re hiring for the following positions:

  • Digital Media Strategist
  • Social Media Strategist
  • Wild Card

Internship Opportunity Descriptions

Digital Media Strategist

Job Summary

We’re looking for a part-time digital media intern to help build our student and non-student audiences through intentional storytelling. The ideal applicant would be a creative, strategic, and collaborative self-starter with strong skills in visual communication (i.e. graphic design, photography, and videography.)

You’ll be supervised by the Director of the LaunchPad at UT, Nina Ho, and collaborate with other LaunchPad Innovation Fellows around storytelling and content creation. (This is a paid position, and time commitment ranges from max 7–19 hrs a week depending on student work status.)

Responsibilities & Deliverables

  • Conceptualize and produce digital assets (graphics, photography, and video) to better tell the story of the LaunchPad to various stakeholders — students, campus entities, and prospective sponsors and donors. Hard deliverables include producing various (weekly and monthly) content pieces (especially events- and program recruitment -oriented campaigns) developed in close collaboration with our Social Media Strategist.
  • Manage and edit the LaunchPad website (Drupal backend).

Qualifications and Skills

  • Excellent creative execution skills for digital media (graphic design, photography, and videography) especially with the Adobe Creative Cloud suite.
  • Ability to translate high level concepts and strategy to creative assets.
  • Be organized, collaborative, and self-directive and able to work with limited supervision.

Social Media Strategist

Job Summary

We’re looking for a part-time social media intern to help build our student audience to raise awareness, deepen interest, and increase digital engagement with the LaunchPad at UT through strategic online activities. The ideal applicant would be a creative, strategic, and collaborative self-starter with a strong command of best practices and trends in social media marketing and analytics.

You’ll be supervised by the Director of the LaunchPad at UT, Nina Ho, and collaborate with other LaunchPad Innovation Fellows around storytelling and content creation. You’ll also interface with key organizations on campus, the global Blackstone LaunchPad & Techstars Network team, other Texas LaunchPad programs (such as UT Dallas), and relevant corporate sponsors. (This is a paid position, and time commitment ranges from max 7–19 hrs a week depending on student work status.)

Responsibilities & Deliverables

  • Conceptualize, implement, and measure the success of social media strategies to grow our brand on digital channels including Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and our blog. Hard deliverables include managing a content editorial calendar (weekly postings), actively managing social media accounts, supporting the Director with our biweekly newsletter, running events- and program recruitment-oriented campaigns, and producing biweekly analysis reports.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Active, professional, and well-rounded personal presence on social media, with a command of each network and their best practices.
  • Excellent communication and creative thinking skills — especially when articulating high level concepts to our Digital Media Strategist.
  • Ability to use data, trends, and intuition to inform strategic decisions.
  • Be organized, collaborative, and self-directive and able to work with limited supervision.
  • *Bonus: experience with the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, Mailchimp, Buffer, and/or online tracking/social listening tools.

Young Invincibles’ Young Advocates Program for Spring 2021

About Young Invincibles:

Young Invincibles is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization working to engage young adults ages 18 to 34 in the political process and expand economic opportunity for our generation. Founded by and for young adults in the summer of 2009 during the debate over health care reform, YI has quickly grown into a leading voice for young people on the broader spectrum of economic justice, with a focus in the issue areas of health care, higher education, and economic security. The organization has achieved major successes in areas ranging from the regulation of college health plans to Pell grants, and has successfully engaged hundreds of thousands of young adults online, through a network of over 100 partner organizations.

Young Advocates Program Description

Young Invincibles (“YI”) is accepting applications for our 2021 Young Advocates program. Advocates build power among young adults to effect positive change in their communities through on-the-ground organizing, such as planning state and local events to educate and facilitate discussions on pressing issues affecting young people.

Advocates will work closely with our YI South team to engage their communities around behavioral health initiatives, affordable higher education and expanding economic opportunity for young Texans. We are seeking applicants who have a passion for YI’s mission and who are interested in building power among young adults to effect positive change.
