Friends of the Texas Historical Commission - Real Places Telling Real Stories

The Friends of the Texas Historical Commission’s Preservation Scholars Program offers students from underrepresented ethnic and cultural backgrounds, as well as those from non-traditional academic backgrounds, exposure to the wide variety of degrees and specializations applicable to historic preservation. Working with Texas Historical Commission (THC) staff, Preservation Scholars gain experience in the fields of architecture, archaeology, economic development, downtown revitalization, heritage tourism, and more.

This program is for you if you are:

  • A member of an underrepresented ethnic or cultural community, or

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Historic preservation is an endeavor that seeks to preserve, conserve, and protect buildings, objects, landscapes, traditions, or other artifacts both tangible and intangible of historical significance. Our goal is to increase the diversity of professionals working in field of historic preservation, which will allow us to better understand and tell the full, authentic stories of the variety of cultures that enrich Texas’ heritage. A program of the Friends of the Texas Historical Commission (FTHC), students are placed for a 10-week internship with the Texas Historical Commission (THC). Over the course of the internship, students work under the supervision of THC staff at the agency’s headquarters in Austin and/or in the field at historic sites to complete a project of their choosing. Select internship projects allow the option for remote participation in the program. Over the course of the internship, students meet with staff in each of the THC’s divisions and attend weekly “Brown Bag Presentations” with outside preservation organizations to learn about the preservation work happening across the state. Brief progress reports are required throughout the internship and upon conclusion. The FTHC also requires a final presentation to its Board of Trustees during the summer board meeting. The internship offers a $5,000 stipend provided by the FTHC.

Livestrong Foundation Internships – Summer 2021

www.livestrong.org/sites/default/files/livestro...

Company Overview

Our Mission

Which everyday cancer problem will we fix today?

We have a Mission Question, not a Mission Statement, because we believe that we can only achieve the best solutions through asking the right questions. We ask survivors and caregivers what they need, we ask the system how it can be more person-centered, we ask innovators how we can bring impossible ideas to life.

Work with Us

At Livestrong, we fight for the more than 32.5 million people around the world living with cancer today. There can be—and should be—life after cancer for more people. That’s why we kick in at the moment of diagnosis, giving people the resources and support they need to fight cancer head-on. Anyone, anywhere can join our fight against cancer.

Internships

Livestrong offers unpaid internships to current students and recent graduates interested in learning the inner workings of a nonprofit organization. Four different internship opportunities are available, read more to learn more about each position that is being offered.

Organizational Support interns work to enhance internal and external communication in order to ensure that applicants and individuals who write in, call, or walk through our doors have a positive and engaging experience with the Foundation. OS interns primarily focus on internship program management including full-cycle recruitment (position posting, resume review, interviewing and on-boarding) while organizing social and professional development opportunities within a highly collaborative and dynamic team environment.

Finance interns assist in a wide variety of activities with many learning opportunities. This team member may assist with everything from transaction entry and audit preparation to budgeting and process improvement. The Finance intern should expect to learn technical skills related to accounting and reporting, as well as soft skills like judgment, critical thinking and communication. This internship is ideal for someone in pursuit of Business, Accounting, Economics or a similar focus. Enthusiasm and professional curiosity are required!

Fundraising and Events interns help Livestrong events staff as they organize events to engage constituents at all levels. This includes important data gathering, interacting with vendors, sponsors, participants, volunteers and other organizations to grow Livestrong events awareness, recruit participants and set up in-market activities. Additionally, interns assist event participants in developing successful fundraising plans to support their goals. Tasks include constituent communication, sharing fundraising tactics, fulfilling requests, and research and gather data on the event landscape and Livestrong event participants to help gage current events and new potential initiatives.

Development interns assist with projects that support the entire development team as we work to update and maintain accurate constituent records. Interns assist with donor stewardship, creating and running reports for prospect/donor events, data analysis, and conducting basic research on individual, corporate or foundation prospects.

Digital Marketing Production interns assist with all ongoing digital marketing efforts. This includes, but is not limited to, strategically generating content for Livestrong’s social media and blog, creating data analytics reports, working on email marketing campaigns and managing one or more Google platforms. The ideal candidate will have a passion to learn, communicate well within a team and be process-oriented and deadline-driven.

Mission interns support the development, implementation, and execution of Livestrong’s strategic mission and objectives. This role may include support in the organization’s delivery of patient-centered services, building and engaging communities of survivors, and leading systems change through a variety of initiatives. Interns will support Livestrong’s mission by interacting with local and national partners to impact the cancer landscape and address gaps in cancer care. Interns should have an interest in the healthcare field, and be comfortable conducting research and evaluation. Ideal candidates should have great communication and writing skills, be highly organized and have the ability to work on multiple projects at once. This is a great position for someone interested in nonprofit management, program building, community outreach, and stakeholder engagement.

Grant Interns assist the Director of Grants Management in a variety of tasks that ensures the Livestrong Solution Grants program recognizes and funds organizations who are developing cutting edge, inventive, and sustainable solutions to overlooked cancer problems. Tasks may include updating the grant application and review process, evaluating best practices, communicating with grantseekers, and writing summary reports. Ideal candidates should have a general interest in grantseeking and grantmaking practices, or an interest to learn more about philanthropic giving. Grants interns will strengthen their communication, data collection, and research skills. They should be highly organized, and able to handle multiple projects at once. Grants Interns assist in preparing for and completing the grantmaking cycle, in addition to assisting in the facilitation of the Livestrong Solution Series: monthly online webinars designed to foster collaboration and conversation among cancer organizations.

Requirements

Interns will be paired with a team member for one-on-one mentorship to gain hands-on experience in their area of interest.
