Development Intern
RESPONSIBILITIES:
HealthStart seeks a part-time Development intern with highly developed organizational skills, time management, and research skills. Interns work 12-15 hours per week under the supervision of our Program & Communications Manager.
Job responsibilities may include:
- Support HealthStart’s Development Committee in identifying prospects that align with HealthStart’s mission
- Research influential groups in the community for collaborative partnerships.
- Research potential clients, inducing school districts, day care centers, afterschool programs, etc.
- Draft content to support outreach to prospects
- Assist in developing materials that will help HealthStart speak to our competencies in health and science education.
- Work with the HealthStart team to develop a strategy for recruiting new school partners.
- Assisting with community outreach and other activities that educate and raise HealthStart’s profile
- Report progress/findings to HealthStart’s Development Committee when necessary
- Other development related tasks as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for the position must have experience with or a strong interest in public health, health promotion, nonprofit development, or related activity. A strong interest in health and wellness or early childhood education is preferred. Must be familiar with basic computer operations including MS WORD, EXCEL, and the Internet.
In addition, candidates should have some or all of the following skills:
- A willingness to learn new things or new ways of doing things
- Ability to meet deadlines with little or no daily onsite supervision

Video Production Intern
RESPONSIBILITIES:
HealthStart seeks a part-time Video Production intern who’s creative, well-organized, has experience with video production, and wants to make concepts come to life. Interns work 12-15 hours per week under the supervision of our Program & Communications Manager. This experience should be highly transferable to jobs involving videography, advertising, and program development.
Job responsibilities may include:
- Film new episodes of our Snack Science Video Series
- Create and produce short impact videos and other projects as needed to spread HealthStart’s mission
- Assist HS staff from start to finish on all video-related projects
- Use HealthStart’s equipment (ie including ring light, green screen, etc.) and/or your own to produce videos with a high production value
- Basic video editing on Adobe Premiere
- Work with HS to develop video concepts and finalize video edits to ensure proper conveyance of HealthStart lessons
- Work with HS staff and other interns on script development
- Other video production-related tasks as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for the position must have experience with or a strong interest in filming video editing, program development, nonprofit development, or related activity. A strong interest in health and wellness or early childhood education is preferred. Must be familiar with basic computer operations including MS WORD, EXCEL, and the Internet.
In addition, candidates should have some or all of the following skills:
- Experience with video animation and Adobe After Effects software – preferred but not required
- Experience filming with iPhone, green screen, and other related equipment
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (1-2 years+) – preferred but not required
- Ability to meet deadlines with little or no daily onsite supervision

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.

Grant Development Intern
RESPONSIBILITIES:
HealthStart is currently seeking a part-time Grant Development Intern with highly developed organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong research skills. Interns work 12-15 hours per week under the supervision of our Program & Communications Manager.
Job Responsibilities may include
- Seeking out new grant funding opportunities that align with HealthStart’s mission
- Performing in-depth research into grant-making organizations and requirements to prioritize and evaluate prospects for grants
- Researching compelling and current studies that support individual granting projects and HealthStart’s work
- Assist in writing and editing high-quality grant proposals in accordance with each grantmaker’s preferences and requirements
- Update our grant information for each HealthStart program/initiative to enable an easy grant submission process at the local, state, and federal levels.
- Other grant development related tasks as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for the position should have a strong interest in or prior experience with creative writing, journalism, fund development or related activity. Knowledge of the grant process is a plus. A strong interest in health and wellness or early childhood education is preferred. Must be familiar with basic computer operations including MS WORD, EXCEL, and the Internet, and Adobe Creative Suite.

This experience should be highly transferable to jobs involving curriculum development, program development, and health education or primary education.
Job responsibilities may include:
- Assist in developing and updating curriculum materials, ensuring a robust and effective curriculum package
- Work with HealthStart staff to develop program materials for implementation including lesson guides, standards posters, and activity instructions
- Monitor and update educational standard alignment as needed
- Assist in script development for Snack Science Video Series
- Attend HealthStart’s Programming Committee as needed
- Other curriculum specialist related tasks as assigned

Digital Marketing Strategist Intern
RESPONSIBILITIES:
HealthStart seeks a part-time Digital Marketing Strategist Intern with highly developed organizational skills, time management, and creative talents. Interns work 12-15 hours per week under the supervision of our Program & Communications Manager.
You will be part of a team shaping HealthStart’s message through social media and marketing campaigns designed to inform and attract new supporters, and related tasks. All of these experiences should be highly transferable to a professional work environment.
Job responsibilities may include:
- Working with HealthStart staff to develop a strategy to maximize the impact of our social media and other digital marketing campaigns.
- Create original marketing content, blog posts, and social media posts that engage audiences across multiple channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Identify real-time trends & translate to social media opportunities.
- Prospecting & interacting with social media accounts to raise HealthStart’s profile and brand awareness
- Create monthly marketing reports using Google and HootSuite analytics
- Review online content to ensure SEO maximization through the use of keywords, #tags, and other strategies
- Work directly with HealthStart’s Marketing Committee as needed
- Other marketing and communications related tasks as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for the position must have work or volunteer experience, and/or course work in public relations, communications, digital marketing, nonprofit development or related activities. A strong interest in health and wellness or early childhood education is preferred.
