Campaign Job Opportunities with the Fund for the Public Interest – Summer 2021

The Fund (@the_fund) / Twitter

Who we are

Fund for the Public Interest is a nonprofit organization that builds people power for America’s leading environmental and public interest organizations. We are the nation’s preeminent grassroots field operation. Our canvassers and callers talk to millions of people one-on-one, generating the membership, financial and political support our partner groups need to tackle important issues, take on tough opposition and win. Through our conversations, the petition signatures and small donations we gather, and the on-the-ground events we organize, we connect people with the issues they care about, and give them a voice in decisions that impact their lives. We deliver the people power it takes to protect our environment, our health and more.

Who we work with

We work alongside groups that speak to a need for a new kind of politics and believe in the power of bringing people together to call for change — such as Environment America, U.S. Public Interest Research Group (U.S. PIRG), Fair Share, National Environmental Law Center and Environmental Action.

Environment America is a policy and action group with one mission: to work for a greener, healthier world with clean air, clean water and clean energy. Whether it’s promoting policies that result in more solar and wind power, or working for better protections for our rivers, streams, lakes and drinking water, Environment America challenges all of us to put the environment first.

U.S. PIRG is a non-partisan consumer advocacy group that works on issues we shouldn’t tolerate in this day and age. From reducing the overuse of antibiotics in the food industry to defending consumer protections on Wall Street, U.S. PIRG doesn’t see issues as liberal or conservative — it works on important issues to make the lives of people in states across the country healthier, safer and more secure.

Each of the groups we work alongside shares a vision that conversations can truly change the world. Learn more about who we work with.

Summer Campaign Job Opportunities

Want to spend your summer building skills that will help you launch your career, working on urgent issues you care about like stopping water pollution in Austin and reducing bee-killing pesticides while making good money?

The Fund for the Public Interest is seeking hard-working individuals with a passion for social change to fill citizen outreach and Field Manager positions across the county this summer. We are hiring full-time positions. As canvassing requires face-to-face interaction with the canvassing team and members of the public, getting vaccinated and following our safety protocols are essential functions of the job and are therefore required for all staff.

Note from BDP

While it is too late for this opportunity to count as a summer Connecting Experience, it could still be an interesting job opportunity!

Research & Publications Internship with the Environmental Law Institute – Fall 2021

Environmental Law Institute – Summer 2019 Internship

Overview

For five decades, the Environmental Law Institute (ELI) has played a pivotal role in shaping the fields of environmental law, policy, and management, both domestically and internationally.

ELI is hiring interns to support the research and publications departments of the Institute. Interns work directly with staff attorneys, editors, scientists, and economists on a variety of projects. Substantive areas of focus in domestic and international policy and law include: climate change, land use, biodiversity, air quality, public health, hazardous waste and brownfields, wetlands and watersheds, armed conflict and the environment, environmental management systems, public participation, environmental justice, Indigenous issues, and environmental enforcement.

Responsibilities

Interns conduct in-depth secondary and primary research, attend and report on outside events, analyze, edit, and synthesize scholarly material, assist with preparation for environmental training courses, and provide limited administrative support. ELI integrates interns into the day-to-day operations of the Institute, and interns are encouraged to attend ELI-sponsored workshops, seminars, roundtable, and other events. In addition, interns will develop and complete an independent research project under the guidance of ELI staff.

Positions are available throughout the academic year (minimum 15 hours/week during the fall and spring semesters) and during the summer (full-time). This position is for the Fall of 2021 and will be remote during the entire duration of the internship.

Qualifications

Candidates for the fall internship must be available to work at least 15 hours/week for at least 10 consecutive weeks. Candidates should possess superior research, writing, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as a deep desire to gain knowledge of the environmental field. A strong academic background is required, but specific environmental experience is not. Candidates must have completed their first year of college. Compensation is not available. ELI will support candidates in their efforts to secure external funding for the position.

Applications

Applications for the fall internship will be accepted until 11:59 pm Friday, July 23, 2021, and will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Interested candidates must apply online through ELI’s application portal (click the Apply button). Applications must include the following materials:

  • Cover letter (including hours per week and number of weeks available)
  • Résumé (including overall GPA)
  • 3-5 page analytical writing sample

Candidates invited to interview will also be asked to complete a 1-2 hour skills assessment.

Please direct all inquiries to internsearch@eli.org. Phone calls are not accepted. For more information on the Institute, visit www.eli.org.

ELI is an equal opportunity employer firmly committed to achieving an inclusive, diverse workforce that values every individual. We firmly believe that hiring individuals with varying perspectives and backgrounds contributes to our success as an organization, and we strive to create an environment that fosters inclusiveness. As such, minority candidates and candidates from traditionally underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
