One Good Turn is currently seeking a Medical Research & Programming Intern to assist our Medical Programming team and Executive Director with the research, development, and writing of medical education protocols for our global partners. This internship offers the opportunity to gain medical research skills and develop medical knowledge, especially within the context of global health.
What You Will Do
- Research assigned medical topics including anatomy, diagnosis, clinical skills, and symptom treatment
- Create medical education materials including written protocols, infographics, and other documents
- Collaborate with the Medical Programming team and Executive Director to ensure accuracy in medical education materials
- Consider regionally specific knowledge & education levels when creating medical education materials
- Interns should expect to write 2-6 medical education protocols during the Fall 2021 semester
What You Will Learn
- How to create and structure medical education materials designed for health workers with little-to-no formal training, easily understood across cultures and languages
- About common medical conditions in developing countries around the tropical belt
- About regionally specific knowledge, resources, and treatments for common medical conditions
- An overview of the global health industry and landscape
The Ideal Candidate…
- Is currently enrolled (or has demonstrated interest/experience) in one or more of the following fields: pre-med/biology, medical research and/or writing, writing intensive programs, public health
- Note: Other academic programs will be considered; all applicants welcome.
- Is self motivated, driven, creative, and willing to learn
- Is flexible and willing to collaborate remotely
- Demonstrates the ability to write with different audiences in mind
- Has access to their own laptop/computer
- Is available for 5-10+ hours weekly, including weekly planning meetings, for the entire Fall 2021 semester
Important Information
This internship is unpaid, but will provide valuable professional experience and an incredible learning opportunity for anyone interested in global health and providing medical education. Class or program credit can be available when applicable. This internship is for the Fall 2021 semester but could continue into the Spring should the working relationship prove valuable to all parties. Mid-semester and end of semester evaluations will be conducted to ensure a beneficial internship experience for both parties.
