Welcome to OT Connection! We would like to thank you for your interest in volunteering/working with us!
We take pride in offering a wonderful opportunity for you to gain hands-on experience in a pediatric therapy setting. All of the therapists and staff at OT Connection are passionate and dedicated to our profession and will provide you with a supportive environment while helping you obtain your volunteer hours.
OT Connection is a busy, outpatient clinic offering Occupational, Speech and Physical Therapy to children 0- 14 years old. We treat children with autism, developmental delays, learning disabilities, sensory integration dysfunction, and other special needs. You can see our web site for additional information at www.otconnection.com.
Many of our volunteers are working to get volunteer hours completed before applying to a professional program and possibly seeking a letter of recommendation. It is always up to each therapist if they wish to give you a letter of recommendation or fill out application forms for you, but here are our basic requirements:
- 20 hours completed to get a simple recommendation form
- 80 hours completed to get a letter of recommendation from a therapist.
We feel that we need to get to know you before we can recommend you to a professional program, so always be ready to impress us!
To get an idea of what our volunteers do from day to day, here is a brief description of some of the daily tasks.
- Filing patient charts, making copies, laminating materials
- Cleaning/prepping therapy rooms before/after sessions-wiping down tabletop and counter surfaces, cleaning/disinfecting toys/games
- Putting away treatment materials/assessment materials that move around the clinic
- Checking the dirty toy bins around the clinic to clean/sanitize toys
- Hands on assist in therapist’s sessions-throwing a ball to a client, being a peer buddy in a game, setting up/taking down an obstacle course, etc.
- Stocking supplies in therapy rooms, organizing therapy materials, making supply order lists for items we are running low on-antibacterial gel, paper towels, Kleenex, pens, paper, etc.
If this sounds interesting to you and you would like to get started, I will send you a link to our Volunteer application. Please complete it, especially the days/times you are To get started, you let me know your availability to take volunteer shifts here (i.e. Monday from 8-10; Thursday afternoons). Then you would attend a 1 hour Volunteer Orientation. We have many volunteers, so we schedule orientation groups to save our staff’s time, so PLEASE try to be flexible when scheduling your orientation time. If you have a particular interest in one of the disciplines, please let me know that and we will attempt to schedule you when that discipline is here.
