Charity Charge Summer Internships

Social Media Internship with Charity Charge

Intern for Charity Charge this summer and help us change the world! Please apply if you’re looking to work for a high-growth social impact startup. Charity Charge has recently partnered with MasterCard and this summer will launch the first ever credit card that lets cardholders earn cash back as a donation to fund any charity, non-profit, college, religious organization, or K-12 school in the United States.

Our mission is to help people give back in a simple and easy way.  Charity Charge is a Public Benefit Corporation, meaning we pledge to meet higher standards of corporate purpose, sustainability, transparency and accountability. Making a positive impact is deeply rooted in the DNA of our company. The social media intern (will not be treated like an intern), should be entrepreneurial, honest, self motivated, organized and reliable.  The primary focus would be to manage the content distribution for one or more social channels.  A secondary component of the role would be using our social handles to get into conversations which exist outside our community.

Manage Content

– Be the voice of Charity Charge. Help cultivate a community through our topics and messaging

– Find news and articles that are relevant and are aligned with Charity Charge.  This would include but is not limited to topics like Philanthropy, Fundraising, Charities, Socially Responsible Companies, 1 for 1 Companies, etc.

– Build and schedule content distribution for your assigned channel(s)

Community Management

– Engage with community, answering questions, and showing attention to all mentions

– Explore ideas for how to engage and expand the community through campaigns or posts with a request for action

Social Listening & Outreach

– Engage with users and companies outside of our community.  Outside of our own channels, and outside of people mentioning Charity Charge, there are conversations that we need to be in.

– The social media intern will need to explore keywords and hashtags to discover relevant discussions to be a part of.

The public relations intern (will not be treated like an intern), should be entrepreneurial, honest, self motivated, organized and reliable.

Duties include: help with business development to define, build, and manage the alliance program and outreach

PR + Media Outreach

– Find relative key influencers and bloggers on web and document

– Find and document key media and publishers contact information

– Reach out to the press and influencers along with a follow up

– Write press releases

Content

– Help create content strategy and editorial calendar for company blog

– Create a content repository for ideas concerning blog posts and social assets  

Business Development

– Identify top prospects (Non profits, for profit social impact companies)

– Create plan of action for strategic alliance

– Compile contact information and setup initial key alliance meetings

– Follow-up with alliance partners to execute respective plan of actions

The content strategy intern (will not be treated like an intern), should be entrepreneurial,honest, self motivated, organized and reliable.  The primary focus would be to create a content strategy for online company assets such as blog and social properties.  A secondary component of the role is would be finding new topics to write about and attracting guest bloggers.

Content Creation Discovery

– Assist in producing graphics, memes, videos

– Help create content strategy and editorial calendar for company blog

– Create a content repository for ideas concerning blog posts and social assets  

– Find news and articles that are relevant and are aligned with Charity Charge.  This would include but is not limited to topics like Philanthropy, Fundraising, Charities, Socially Responsible Companies, 1 for 1 Companies, etc.

Innovation

– Explore new ways to reach out and appeal to the Charity Charge community through innovative content

– Examples of future projects would include a weekly show hosted on YouTube or Google Hangout, guest interviews, etc.

– Find and manage relationships with guest bloggers who align with our messaging

Explore the World Travel Scholarship

Hostelling International – Austin is offering four $2,000 travel scholarships open to individuals, ages 18-30, who will engage in an educational or service learning component during their trip. The program is called Explore the World, and it’s administered by the nonprofit organization, Hostelling International USA (HI USA). HI USA is committed to creating a more tolerant world, and these scholarships create a whole new breed of young travelers inspired to make the world a better place, but lack the financial means to go abroad. The application deadline is May 15, and the application can be accessed online at https://www.hiusa.org/programs/travel-scholarships.

GENAustin Summer & Fall Internships

GEN’s mission is to support and guide girls to make wise choices as they navigate the unique pressures of girlhood.

Internship Opportunities

  • Communications—contribute to social media, the agency blog/website, and external communications.
  • Community Relations—serve as a representative of GEN in the community, table at outreach events, and assist with the recruitment, screening, and training of agency volunteers.
  • Direct Service—contribute to curriculum review and revision, provide support on-site with programming, and facilitate groups at elementary, middle, and high schools.
  • Fundraising—assist with projects necessary to sustain programs for girls and gain valuable skills in a nonprofit Development Department.
  • Pathfinder Leadership Summit Intern— will assist in various aspects of delivering our Pathfinder Leadership Summit, a personal and professional leadership development program for young women in high school.
  • Project Management—help plan our annual We Are Girls conference which serves 3,000+ parents, girls and educators in November (with events in Austin and Houston), as well as contribute to marketing/PR efforts and initiatives for our camps, Pathfinder program, and special projects.

Each of these internship positions can also contain a direct service component, helping to lead our self esteem building programs with girls, if desired.

GEN is seeking strong leaders with a passion for girls’ issues to fill a number of unpaid internships within our agency. All interns must be committed to the mission of GEN, be team-oriented, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and have reliable transportation. Internships typically last one semester (fall, spring or summer) and are anywhere from 10-40 hours/week.  Please use the application form to specify which areas of our work you are most interested in.  Thank you for considering GEN for your internship!  To apply, download the application form GEN Internship Application, fill it out and send it to volunteer@genaustin.org.

Applicants are interviewed and selected on a rolling basis.

2)    Send your completed application material to volunteer@genaustin.org and use the subject line: Your name, internship.

Notice: GEN DOES NOT accept paper, mailed or faxed applications. Please use an appropriate word processing program such as MS Word to submit your application materials. Also, please note that submitting a resume is optional.
