Internships with the Texas Water Development Board

The Texas Water Development Board is proud to offer an unpaid internship program aimed at providing students with real-world training and development. The goal is to provide current college students or recent graduates with useful skills to complement their education and help them gain future employment opportunities. Beyond providing on-the-job experience in their desired field, internships at the TWDB give students both an inside look at state government and the opportunity to see first-hand how our important work has a direct impact on the citizens of Texas. Interns are afforded opportunities to interact with and learn from agency management while working closely with subject-matter-experts in their intended field on a daily basis.

Primary duties:

  • Performs support work for division program areas
  • Provides project assistance
  • Conducts research as requested for various projects
  • Prepares correspondence, reports, studies, forms and documents
  • May research, compose, design, or edit agency publications, forms manuals and charts
  • Assists with special projects

SUMMER: June – August
FALL: September – December
SPRING: January – May

Internships with Austin Music Foundation

Our mission is to strengthen and connect the local music community by providing free business education and networking opportunities to local musicians and music industry professionals. Since 2002, we have helped as many as 15,000 professionals in the music industry through our expert programs, panels, mentoring and consultations. The Austin Music Foundation is committed to ensuring that Austin’s creative class and music industry businesses thrive and remain in the Live Music Capital of the World.

Austin Music Foundation in Austin, Texas is currently seeking enthusiastic and motivated interns with a love of music and a serious interest in working in the music business.  The internships are not paid positions and you should be available to work 15 or more hours per week to fully benefit from the experience.  The ideal candidates can demonstrate that they are team players, energetic, self-motivated, creative, responsible, and have a passion for music.

Administrative Interns:  AMF is looking for some passionate and customer service oriented individuals to help with our busy office.  You would be involved with general administrative duties including signing up new clients, scheduling meetings, answering phones, assisting with events and creating checklists with our staff for our clients.  An ideal candidate should be friendly and professional with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Public Relations/Social Media Intern:  We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to assist Austin Music Foundation and our clients with promotional material and social media outreach.  At any given time you could be involved in marketing and promotions, researching, social media outreach, event organization, and office administration.

Candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, well versed in social media, multi-tasking ability and time management skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently and be a self-starter, a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Communications Intern:  This internship position offers the opportunity for an in-depth look in the marketing promotion and logistics of AMF’s campaigns and events which often includes copyediting, researching new press avenues and drafting blog posts.  Strong written skills are a must.  A background of interest in policy or law particularly as relates to the creative sector, is preferred.

Website Design/Graphics:  We are currently offering an internship to provide students with exposure to the fundamental functions of website development and maintenance.  This intern can expect a lot of interaction with management on website directions, experience on the needs of running a live production site while developing incremental improvements to it.  Responsibilities include updating website content (video, text and graphics), research and recommend plugins to add features and update and test features and layouts.

Event Planning:  This is an exciting opportunity to intern for our event planning with a dynamic, energetic and diverse group.  Responsibilities include coordinating invite lists, creating invitations, coordinating with sponsors/advertisers/city leaders/artists and general administrative tasks as required.  Candidate must be professional, customer service oriented, exhibit discretion and confidentiality with critical information and data, have excellent communication skills and be proficient in PowerPoint, Excel and Word.

Street Team Intern:  AMF is seeking a highly motivated individual interested in pursuing a career in marketing and promotions to design a street team.  This individual will coordinate and organize teams to attend local shows and events to promote the services and events for AMF and our clients.  Responsibilities include scheduling the teams, communicating with venue owners, bands and festivals and event setup and breakdown.  Applicants must have a flexible schedule and be available for evening events.

Fall Internship with Council for Environmental Education

The Council for Environmental Education (CEE) is offering an eight week internship in our Austin office during the fall of 2015. The intern will assist in a major curriculum development effort: the Next Generation Project WILD project. The internship is for a full-time, 320 hour position over the course of eight to ten weeks. A $2,000 stipend will be provided. The position is ideal for those seeking to further develop their expertise in environmental education, science education, lesson planning, and K-12 curriculum development. Former teachers, nonformal educators, pre-service teachers, and students (graduate and undergraduate) are encouraged to apply.

Organization Description: The Council for Environmental Education (CEE), a non-profit organization with offices in Houston and Austin, serves as the national headquarters for Project WILD, the largest wildlife education program in the United States (seewww.projectwild.org). As the cornerstone publication for the Project WILD program, this curriculum helps tens of thousands of K-12 educators each year throughout North America engage students in hand-on activities and projects involving the study and stewardship of wildlife and the environment. At the national level CEE also administers Aquatic WILD, Growing Up WILD, Flying WILD, and WET in the City. CEE recently completed the updating and expanding a cornerstone publication: the Aquatic WILD K-12 Educators Curriculum and Activity Guide. Efforts are currently underway at CEE to expand the “Terrestrial” Project WILD K-12 Curriculum and Activity Guide.

Position Description: As part of the team at CEE working to expand the Project WILD K-12 Curriculum and Activity Guide, the Curriculum Development Intern will assist in development of new content on environmental issues, new approaches to teaching and learning, additional content on student-centered field investigations, STEM learning, career development, and additional outdoor learning experiences. Updating the curriculum guide will involve the intern in researching environmental issues, including wildlife conservation issues, as well as conservation organizations, educational standards and pedagogy. The intern will also help draft, analyze, and edit lessons and other texts that will ultimately be published for professional K-12 educators to implement Project WILD in schools and nonformal settings.

Throughout the internship, the intern will meet no less than once per week with CEE staff for a progress report and to ensure that the intern has all of the information needed to complete the work. The intern will also be encouraged to solicit guidance as often as needed.

The intern placed with CEE will be encouraged to be creative and feel empowered to share innovative ways to improve the Project WILD curriculum. By completing this internship the Curriculum Development Intern will gain knowledge, experience, and/or skills in:

• Writing and editing for curriculum development
• Knowledge of the fields of environmental education and science education
• Knowledge of nonformal and formal educator professional development systems and networks
• Knowledge of the educational publishing industry
• Researching environmental conservation issues and organizations
• Researching trends in educational methodologies
• Preparing reports, summaries, and goals for an organization
• Project WILD or related professional development training

In addition to completing the above job description, the intern will collaborate with staff members on a variety of other tasks. With a small staff running several national programs, the intern will have a unique opportunity to be fundamentally involved with all of the programs, and environmental education as a whole, starting on day one. Participation in weekly staff meetings will provide an overview of the business of running a nonprofit, keep the intern up to date on staff projects, and allow them to report out on their own projects.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of general office operations
• Detail oriented and well organized
• Ability to use Microsoft Office and Excel software
• Time management skills
• Effective oral and written skills
• Research skills

Preferred Experience
Coursework and/or experience in K-12 education, lesson planning, curriculum development, environmental sciences, or STEM education is preferred.
