UT AmeriCorps VISTA Program Opportunities

The UT Austin Division of Diversity & Community Engagement (DDCE) AmeriCorps VISTA program is now accepting applications for both Summer Associates positions as well as full-year VISTA positions (starting in July).  The Summer Associates positions are ideal for current college students in need of a summer paid internship and will take place from June 2nd until August 8th and will be in the following organizations:

Austin Area Urban League – 4 positions
Austin Pre Freshman Engineering Program (AusPrEP) at Huston-Tillotson University – 5 positions
Camp Fire – 5 positions
UT Outreach Rio Grande Valley – 2 positions
UT Outreach Houston – 2 positions
UT Outreach Dallas – 2 positions
UT Outreach San Antonio – 1 position

Internship with Children of All Nations

Children of All Nations is a 501(c)3 child welfare organization based in Austin, Texas. We specialize in connecting orphans throughout the world with their forever families through international adoption.

We are currently looking for a part-time intern for the Summer who is preferably fluent in French to provide support to the case managers of our African and Haitian adoption programs. Responsibilities include: Calling French-speaking staff, government officials, and orphanages in foreign countries to provide program support; translation of French documents to English and vice versa; assisting case managers as necessary to advocate for the adoption of orphaned children abroad. Students should preferably be a junior or senior in college and preferred candidates will have experience studying abroad or working/communicating with people from other countries. If the student is not a French-speaker, other tasks as assigned will apply.

In addition to the above responsibilities, the intern may also work with the Development Specialist to contact the foreign governments of African countries to explore the possibility of opening adoption or humanitarian aid programs there, researching the programs’ potential for success, help to develop orphan care programs worldwide, and other tasks as assigned. The intern should be available part-time on weekdays between 8:30 am and 4 pm and the schedule is flexible depending on your class schedule.

Children’s Defense Fund Seeking Policy Intern

The Children’s Defense Fund Leave No Child Behind® mission is to ensure every child a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities.

Job Description:

The internship is based in Austin and provides general support for the Children’s Defense Fund-TX Policy Department. The intern provides substantive research, compiles reports, monitors interim legislative committees and helps with the execution of advocacy-related activities, including advocate training/recruitment, story collection, public education, legislator visits, legislative briefings and other Department projects. Generally 15 hrs/wk during the school year. Candidates may apply for Fall, Spring, Summer, or Full-Year internship.

Primary Responsibilities:

•Volunteer advocate outreach and recruitment
•Policy research, briefs and training material
•Conducts research on public policy, media trends and other subjects as needed
•Assists in the development and execution of special projects
•Perform other division, department, and organization-wide special projects as needed and assigned
•Assist in maintaining CDF’s social media platforms
•Evenings and occasional weekend activity is required, consistent with policy support for a leading national not-for-profit organization

•Strong organizational and execution skills
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Attention to detail
•Commitment to social advocacy and CDF’s mission to be a voice for all children

•Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact diplomatically and professionally with CDF staff and external partners/contacts
