Undergraduate Research Opportunity with the Latino Research Institute – Summer 2021

Role Description

This position supports the work of the Latino Research Institute’s primary data collection of a new research study that will examine the implementation and efficacy of a culturally adapted parenting intervention for Latino families in Austin. This a community-based research collaboration between UT Austin, San José Catholic Church, and the Migrant Clinicians Network.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • URAs will assist with a variety of tasks to support the data collection and management needs of the project:
  • Prepare research materials for data collection (e.g., develop web-based survey)
  • Pilot test web-based surveys
  • Conduct field data collection (remotely via telephone or Zoom or in person, pending COVID-19 restrictions)
  • Interview parents and adolescents
  • Assist in data entry and archival tasks
These responsibilities will be performed remotely. Given the dynamic environment created by COVID-19, your responsibilities and/or your work location may be re-assessed throughout the period of employment.

Qualifications
Must be fluent in English and Spanish

Detail-oriented
Basic computer skills
Research experience (preferred, but not required)

Expected Start Day
6/1/21 -8/31/21 Summer Semester
The position is renewable pending performance of the undergraduate research assistant (URA)

Health Promotion Internship with HealthStart Foundation – Summer 2021

COMPANY OVERVIEW:
HealthStart’s mission is to provide the blueprints for building healthier communities through children’s health science education. We teach kids how their body works, what it’s made of, and how this relates to what to eat and how to keep their bodies healthy. HealthStart lessons also teach kids that taking care of one another, and our environment builds community health and wellbeing.

HealthStart seeks an intern interested in building a healthier future for our children by assisting in community outreach, data collection, and our summer Children’s Health Education Workshops (CHEWS). Our Health Promotion Intern will gain experience in pilot program development, evaluation techniques, and nonprofit work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
HealthStart seeks a part-time Health Promotion Intern with highly developed organizational skills, time management, and research skills. Interns work 12-15 hours per week under the supervision of our Program Manager. This experience should be highly transferable to jobs involving program development, evaluation, and health promotion.

Job responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting in organizing the development of a 8-week series of Community Health Education Workshops
  • Attending and executing a 8-week series of bi-weekly CHEWS at three local Housing Authority of City of Austin locations
  • Develop materials that will help HealthStart speak to our competencies in health and science education.
  • Assisting with Health Promotion activities, community outreach, and other events that educate and raise HealthStart’s profile
  • Assist in organizing and analyzing data collected from program evaluations
  • Working directly with HealthStart’s Scientific Committee
  • Other health promotion related tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for the position must have experience with or a strong interest in public health, health promotion, evaluation, nonprofit development, or related activity. A strong interest in health and wellness or early childhood education is preferred. Must be familiar with basic computer operations including MS WORD, EXCEL, and the Internet.

In addition, candidates should have some or all of the following skills:

  • A willingness to learn new things or new ways of doing things
  • Ability to meet deadlines with little or no daily onsite supervision
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Enthusiasm about making a difference
  • Local to the Austin area
  • BILINGUAL PREFERRED

We serve children and families from all over the country and have a diverse and active research program. We are looking for a dedicated intern to help with data collection and entry, study promotion, and more.

We are looking for a student who is willing to take initiative, meet deadlines, has good attention to detail, and can work with multiple clinicians and professionals to execute their plans. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your leadership skills, work closely with professionals, families, and children in both a clinical and nonclinical setting, and be an integral part of our team.

Clinical Intern

The Johnson Center for Child Health & Development is a non-profit organization that provides supports and services to children with autism, developmental delays and other special needs. We serve children and families from all over the country and have multi-disciplinary clinic that provides diagnostic and assessment services, counseling, feeding therapy, behavioral therapy, and nutrition and medical intervention and support.

We are looking for a student who has an interest in childhood development and the clinical treatment and supports provided to children with developmental disorders and their families. The right student is eager to learn and be a part of the overall process of providing meaningful support and therapeutic intervention. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about multi-disciplinary care.
