Research Assistantship Position for Students with Strong Spanish Language Skills

Dr. Su Yeong Kim, a faculty member in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences, College of Natural Sciences, is conducting a research study on Mexican American children and families. Our goal is to understand how children who translate between Spanish and English for their English-limited speaking parents affects children’s academic and socio-emotional development.

We are seeking undergraduate research assistants to recruit families over the phone and interview families in-person. We seek students with strong Spanish language skills to be research assistants in our project. Students can receive course credit through HDF 355, a research practicum course, for their work on the project.  Non-HDF majors can use HDF 355 as an elective course for their degree plan.

Livestrong (Lance Armstrong Foundation) Internships available this spring!

The Lance Armstrong Foundation offers unpaid internships to current students and recent graduates interested in learning the inner workings of a nonprofit organization. Interns will be paired with a Foundation team member for one-on-one mentorship to gain hands-on experience in their area of interest.

Requirements:

Applicants must:

  • Be available to work 12–20 hours per week during regular business hours at LIVESTRONG HQ in Austin, Texas.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and a high level of computer competency.
  • Be self-motivated, organized, willing to help with any project no matter how large or small and be able to balance multiple priorities at once.
  • Have a strong desire to make a difference, a passion for the LIVESTRONG mission, a positive attitude and an affinity for the color yellow.
  • Be able to provide their own housing and transportation; mastery of parallel parking is a plus.

Job Title: Side by Side Kids iPad Lab Tech

Side by Side Kids (SBSK) is debuting its iPad Tech Lab in fall 2012 for its afterschool program. The iPad lab will serve to help kids build academic skills in a fun and relevant way. SBSK is looking for an iPad Lab Tech to manage the daily operations of the lab and to teach the iPad Lab class to elementary age students in the afterschool program.

Main Duties:
Coordinate the iPad Lab programming with the SBSK Afterschool Program Coordinator and Afterschool Site Coordinators on a weekly basis.
Manage the daily operations of the SBSK iPad Lab at the assigned elementary school.
Develop iPad Lab lesson plans for the students that are grade appropriate.
Teach daily lessons to the students in the iPad Lab.
Evaluate the success of the iPad Lab throughout the semester.
Update and track Apple equipment used in the lab.
Complete other duties as assigned.

Time Involvement Required:
Part-time position of 20 hours/week. Must be at the assigned elementary school during afterschool program hours from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Additional hours are scheduled with supervisor. Expect some evening and weekend activities throughout the year. In addition, be prepared to pick up and drop off equipment between the hours of 2:00 pm and 6:15 pm.
