Ted Strauss Civic Internship Awards – Apply by April 29th for $2,000

Ted Strauss Civic Internship Awards

University of Texas undergraduate students who will not be graduating before December 2013 are invited to apply for The Ted Strauss Civic Internship Award to supplement their paid or unpaid internship in the fields of public policy, public service, government, or politics for the summer.  Previous award winners have worked for CNN, the U.S. Department of Education, the United States Senate, Defenders of Wildlife, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association, among other organizations and governmental agencies.

Amount of the stipend:  $2,000

Applications Deadline: Monday, April 29, 2013

  • Contact information including name, address, email, and telephone number
  • Major field of study and current overall GPA
  • Resume
  • Letter of acceptance from the office or agency where the internship will take place
  • 250 word description of your reason for applying

Internship Requirements:

  • Internship must be in the area of public policy, public service, government, or politics.
  • Must be an undergraduate and not be graduating before December 2013.
  • Internship must be a minimum of 10 hours a week for 10 weeks.
  • Internship must not include more than 25% clerical work.
  • Course credit is preferred, but not required.

Expectations by the Institute: The recipients will be expected to write a summary of their experience by September 15, 2013 and to make a brief oral report at the Strauss Institute’s advisory council meeting following their internship experience if requested. Archer Fellowship Program – February 22nd Deadline

Interested in learning about public policy firsthand by living, interning, and taking in-residence classes in Washington, D.C., for a fall or spring semester? If the answer is yes, the Archer Fellowship Program may be for you!

The Archer Fellowship Program provides the opportunity to work in our nation’s capital while making progress toward a UT degree. Home to many government, media, and cultural institutions, Washington, D.C., offers unparalleled opportunities for career development and cultural enrichment. Moreover, the program’s unique combination of academic and experiential learning allows students to combine their intellectual and professional interests in a challenging academic environment.

Archer Fellows study and intern in Washington, D.C., during a fall or spring semester. Past internship placements include the White House, the Supreme Court, the World Bank, National Public Radio, MSNBC, the Sierra Club, and the Department of Education, among many others. Students find their own internships, with support from Archer Center staff, so that they may pursue the internship experience that best aligns with their goals and interests. BDP students selected as Archer Fellows may be able to propose their DC internship as a connecting experience.

Travel to Israel on Campus Leaders Mission with Anti-Defamation League

The Anti-Defamation League’s Campus Leaders Mission to Israel, scheduled to take place August 5-15, 2013, provides an opportunity for student leaders to receive an up-close and personal perspective on Israel. Mission participants learn about the strategic and social realities of Israel by meeting with decision-makers, government and military officials, diplomats, journalists, students, and everyday Israelis – Arab and Jewish – from diverse communities, cultures, and backgrounds.

Qualified applicants must be college freshmen, sophomores, or juniors who are leaders on their college/university campus through political involvement, student activism, and/or editors of the campus newspaper. Fifteen to twenty students from around the country will be selected to participate. Students who have previously visited Israel are not eligible.

There will be no cost to selected participants. This includes travel to and from Israel, accommodations, meals, and a stipend of up to $200 for travel to New York.
