Central Texas Table of Grace: Direct Care – Youth

Central Texas Table of Grace is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that exists to provide emergency shelter services to the children and youth in the foster care system. Their support contributes to an improved quality of life for children that have been abused or neglected. Supporting the development of self-confidence, healthful living, and good judgment, Central Texas Table of Grace will provide many children with a thorough foundation for success. (This is a 24-hour residential facility.) We are seeking individuals who have a passion for working with at-risk boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 17.The Direct Care position requires the ability to exercise good judgment, remain calm in a crisis, interact positively with others, and use common sense. Direct Care Staff is responsible for providing supervision, being a mentor and good role model to our children, and assisting them with following the rules and structure of the program and activities. Experience is preferred.You must be 21 years of age or older, pass a background check, TB and Drug test. In addition, you will be trained in CPR/First Aid, Emergency Behavior Intervention, and other related subjects regarding children and mental health.The starting pay for this position is $10 per hour. (There will be an opportunity for a wage increase based on experience and performance after a probationary period.) We are seeking both part time and full time employees, specifically we are looking for people with weekend availability. Shifts are generally 7a.m. – 3p.m., 10a.m. – 6p.m., 3 p.m. -11:00 p.m., 6 p.m. – 2:00 a.m., and 11p.m. – 7p.m. Please email or fax your resume to 512-717-6336. William Randolph Hearst Endowed Fellowship for Minority Students

FELLOWSHIP DESCRIPTION

The Aspen Institute Program on Philanthropy and Social Innovation (PSI) in Washington, DC offers the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Fellowship to one student three times annually. The fellowship, which is based on academic excellence and need, is open to both undergraduate and graduate students of color. The Hearst Fellow serves as an intern with PSI in the Washington, DC office of the Aspen Institute. Through this fellowship, PSI seeks to introduce a diverse group of students to issues and challenges affecting philanthropy, social enterprise, nonprofit organizations, and other actors in the social sector. Recipients may arrange with their colleges or universities to receive academic credit for this experience.

The Aspen Institute Program on Philanthropy and Social Innovation seeks to inform and maximize the impact of grantmaking foundations, nonprofit organizations, social enterprises, and public-private partnerships through leadership development initiatives, convenings, and communications so that each can contribute to the good society at home and abroad.

POSITION DETAILS

Activities: In his or her internship, the Hearst Fellow undertakes research, writing, logistical, and administrative support for PSI’s leadership initiatives, public programs, and convenings.

Requirements: Candidates for this fellowship are highly motivated graduate or undergraduate students from underrepresented communities of color. Candidates must be enrolled at an institution of higher education for the semester which they will be applying. Summer candidates must show proof of enrollment for the upcoming fall semester. Each candidate should have an excellent academic record and also have the following:

  1. Demonstrated interest or experience in nonprofit organizations, philanthropy, and the social sector;
  2. Excellent research and writing skills;
  3. Demonstrated financial need; and
  4. U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency. Students approved for participation in the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program are eligible to apply.

This is not a scholarship. The student must be able to work as an intern for 12-15 weeks in the Washington, DC office of the Aspen Institute during the academic semester in which the fellowship is awarded. Fall and Spring interns will work part-time (15-20 hours per week) and Summer interns will be full-time. All travel and housing costs must be covered by the student.

Fellowship Compensation: Fellows will be compensated on an hourly basis in the fall, spring and summer.

  • Internship Availability: Summer 2017 (May-August)
    • Application Deadline: March 17, 2017; Award Notification: April 18, 2017
  • Internship Availability: Fall 2016 (August-December)
    • Application Deadline: September 8, 2016; Award Notification: September 22, 2016

The Senate Education Committee is offering several unpaid internships to undergraduates for the 85th Legislative Session. The Senate Education Committee is a fast-paced environment that deals with complex policy and legislation daily. The internship is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the legislature and education policy while developing ties with other legislative staffers. Committee interns will be an integral part of the public service provided by the Committee’s office. Candidates for an intern position should be hard workers, fast thinkers, and willing to help the Committee in research, policy, and administrative capacities. Applicants ought to possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills, solid computer and writing skills, have the ability to understand and explain complex policy issues, and be courteous at all times. Interns can expect to be asked to assist on policy research and to help committee staff answer phones, file documents, and other important administrative tasks. All interns function as assistants to the Committee Director and other Committee staff. The Committee will work with the student’s respective college or university to assist with course credit for the internship. The hours of the internship will vary dependent on the student’s schedule. Please bear in mind that the Committee deals solely with education policy and legislation. Those who are looking to work on a wide variety of issues should apply with specific legislator’s offices. Anyone looking to learn about Texas education policy, or to just get their foot in the door of the legislature would be excellent candidates for a position with the Committee.
