Anti-Defamation League Internships

The Anti-Defamation League was founded in 1913 “to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment to all.” Now one of the nation’s premier civil rights agencies, ADL fights anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry, defends democratic ideals and protects civil rights for all. Interns will receive a broad overview of the work that the ADL does, including civil rights, education, and community initiatives.

In Education, interns will help set up our 2016-17 No Place for Hate® initiative which provides educators and students the resources to ensure that anti-bias and diversity education are an integral part of the school curriculum. Interns may also participate in banner ceremonies where we honor each school district for their achievement. Interns will also help us prepare for our annual No Place for Hate Youth Summit, which empowers over 700 middle school students and faculty to build campuses of respect.

Under our Development wing, interns will assist with donor cultivation and stewardship as well as correspondence. Interns will also aide in event planning and fundraising.

In Civil Rights, interns will sit in on civil rights calls and other internal meetings as well as assist in planning legislative day and legislator visits.   

Other duties include writing articles for our blog and other local publications, helping us prepare and attending our board meetings. The schedule is flexible, but we would like for interns to work 2-3 days a week for a total of 10-12 hours. Candidates must be passionate about social justice and be engaging with our large network of community leaders.

Travis County Model Court for Children and Families Internship

Student Internship – Travis County Model Court for Children and Families

The Travis County Model Court for Children and Families is a multidisciplinary community initiative started in September, 2008, to help facilitate systemic improvement of the court and child welfare systems.  The work of this Model Court is focused on promoting successful outcomes for approximately 1,450 children and their families in Travis County who are involved in civil lawsuits filed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (the state child welfare agency) as a result of findings of child abuse and neglect.  This Model Court is part of a national network of similar model courts.  It is supported by the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, which provides organizational support and technical assistance.

What You Will Learn:

  1. Understanding of the Court’s role in addressing and handling Civil Child Abuse and Neglect Cases.
  2. Collection and Analysis of Court Data with an eye toward system improvement.
  3. Assist the Judge and Judicial Staff Attorney with specific projects related to child welfare and teen pregnancy.
  4. Plenty of additional opportunities in related projects.
  5. Opportunities to attend and participate in collaborative community initiatives working to improve the court and child welfare systems.
  6. We value all of our interns and will go the extra mile to make sure you receive a learning experience that fits your academic goals.  We will provide training, supervision, and guidance. You will also learn how to work in a professional environment and have ample opportunity to network with leaders in the child welfare field in Travis County.

What We Require:

  1. Strong communication skills.
  2. Organized, with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments.
  3. Creative and Flexible.
  4. Must have your own laptop computer and be able to work a mix of remote hours and hours at the Travis County Courthouse located at 1000 Guadalupe Street.
  5. Prefer individuals who have experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  6. Prefer individual with interest in child welfare and generally socially conscious individual.

Details:

  1. Starting and Ending dates of this internship are flexible.
  2. You are expected to work 160 hours over the course of a semester. We understand you are a student first and will work around your course schedule.
  3. The internship is unpaid.

U.S. Green Building Council Texas Chapter Fall & Spring Internship Opportunity

A great internship opportunity is available for a smart, responsible, motivated student to work for the U.S. Green Building Council Texas Chapter, a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to accelerating adoption of green building and land development practices in Texas through outreach, education, advocacy and partnerships. Our goal is to enable an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy and prosperous environment that assures quality of life for all Texans.

Title: USGBC Texas Advocacy Intern (Unpaid) Hours: Min. 20 hours per week
Location: Austin

Job Description:

Work with the Executive Director and the USGBC Texas Advocacy Committee on all aspects of the Chapter’s advocacy work, including organization of 2017 State Advocacy Day and support for Green Schools outreach.

Work responsibilities will include:

  • Review and revise Advocacy Plan for 2017 Session
  • Develop contact lists for targeted outreach within the local and regional communities
  •  Contact staff of state government officials for appointments as required and prepare for papers for the meetings
  • Coordinate State Advocacy committee meetings
  •  Research available issues papers from USGBC National applicable in Texas
  •  Help further develop Advocacy Protocols and handbook for reference by Chapter’s leadership and advocates
  •   Assist with related events, such as State Advocacy Day, as needed
  •   Provide support to Green Schools initiative, including Green Schools Alliance and Green Apple Day of ServicePosition requirements:
  • Ideally studying public affairs, government affairs or corporate communications
  •  Must be computer and internet savvy; proficiency in Word, Excel, Powerpoint and publishing software an advantage
  •   Prepared to do both innovative and everyday work
  •  Have or be willing to learn the ability to make contacts and follow up proactively
  •  Detail oriented, well organized self-starter with good writing skills
  •  Willing to commit to working hard and, once committed, being reliable
  •   Knowledge of or passion for sustainable building, environmental issues or energy conservation a plus.Benefits:
