3 Day Startup Fall Internships

The experience of entrepreneurship unlocks human potential in powerful and unique ways. 3DS programs train participants to start companies, an act of creation charged with hope, promise, and potential. This experience transforms both the budding entrepreneur and the people their new venture serves. For students, the practice of entrepreneurship instills confidence, motivation, and hustle. For communities, entrepreneurship grows economies, creates jobs, and brings people together to solve problems.

Over the last eight years, more than 11,000 students at 150 universities, colleges, and high schools have learned entrepreneurship the 3 Day Startup way: discovering customers and validating markets, iterating, prototyping, and learning-by-doing. 3DS continues to increase the scale, scope, and quality of immersive entrepreneurship education.

We are looking for 2 interns for the fall 2016 semester, a Branding Intern and a Research & Evaluation Intern. All candidates must be students located in the Austin area and available to come to the 3DS office downtown at Capital Factory at least12 – 15 hours/week. This is a paid opportunity.

BRANDING INTERN:

Qualifications

  • Working towards Bachelor’s degree in a field related to design, journalism, or communications.
  • Ability to work autonomously with strong focus and prioritization
  • Strong portfolio of past work creating and managing branding for different stakeholder groups
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization
  • Expertise with the Adobe Suite (primarily Ilustrator, Photoshop, Indesign)
  • Excitement about entrepreneurship, startups, and university-level education
  • Bonus: Experience with WordPress, video editing

Responsibilities

  • Work with 3DS team to identify ideal branding and prioritize design projects
  • Support the Brand Journalist in their role of telling the 3DS story
  • Update all 3 Day Startup branding to ensure consistency across all platforms. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Logos and branding guide
    • Program materials
    • Website pages
    • Promotional materials
  • In addition to these projects, interns have the opportunity to lead or contribute to other projects and tasks and develop a personalized learning agenda around key skill sets that they seek to develop or expand

RESEARCH & EVALUATION INTERN:

Qualifications:

  • Upper level undergraduate student or first year grad student
  • Interest in the social sciences, specifically educational research and methodology
  • Flexible and adaptable; open to change, learning, and improvement
  • Ability to work autonomously with focus and prioritization
  • Highly motivated and detail oriented
  • Experience with data analytics program (SPSS, SAS, or STATA) preferred
  • Excitement about entrepreneurship, startups, and university-level education

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the collection and analysis of high quality data to inform programmatic decisions
  • Develop a metrics and evaluation performance dashboard for 3DS programs
  • Assist in the development of an academic conference for the 3DS network
  • Conduct literature reviews of the most current research in experiential youth entrepreneurship education
  • In addition to these projects, interns have the opportunity to lead or contribute to other projects and tasks and develop a personalized learning agenda around key skill sets that they seek to develop or expand

Latinitas Fall Internship

2016 Latinitas Austin Program Club Leader

Hourly Wage: $10 – 12

Time Commitment: 5 days a week, 2:30 pm – 6:00pm

Looking for a rewarding experience while developing your professional skills? Latintias Austin is looking for self-starters who are able to work independently with Elementary and Middle School girls. Program leaders deliver lessons in writing, blogging, photography, web and graphic design, video game and app development focused on themes such as self-esteem, identity, college attainment, healthy living and more.

Description:

Latinitas is seeking women who have excellent written and verbal communication skills.  They  should be organized, resourceful, creative, enthusiastic, and proactive. We are looking for someone who is able to work independently as well as part of a team. Experience working with children preferred. Bilingual volunteers are encouraged to apply.

This position is recommended for college students or graduates with majors like journalism, radio-tv-film, cultural studies, communications, social work, or education with interest or experience in digital media production, technology development and cultural literacy.

Program leaders implement Latinitas weekly after-school media enrichment clubs at local elementary and middle schools where girls can build confidence through media and technology.

Our clubs serves girls ages 9-14 and focus on encouraging girls to build confidence through creative multimedia expression. Girls in our clubs will participate in hands-on activities such as writing, media literacy, photography, filmmaking, blogging and other more techy projects such as video game design, app creation and more. Our clubs connect girls with positive role models and encourage girls to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Digital media, technology and cultural literacy education
  • Mentors youth, encourages positive team environment and serves as a role model
  • Leads team-building and confidence-boosting activities and games
  • Develops and implements activity ideas for Club Latinitas
  • Organizes field trips, special events & projects as needed
  • Reports twice monthly for staff trainings, mandatory staff orientations in Fall and Spring
  • Communicates school officials on Latinitas program updates
  • Follows safety regulations and emergency procedures, responds to critical incidents, performs routine first aid tasks, and ensures well-being of campers
  • Abides by all Club Latinitas rules and regulations, enforces them among campers, and applies appropriate behavior management techniques

Communications and Public Information Office

Description

The Community Engagement Internship enables the participant(s) to help craft methods for generating public input on policy questions posed by the City Council; to design and help facilitate activities designed to develop community consent; and to create and help execute facilitation exercises meant to resolve issues and concerns from the community.

The interns will work directly with the Community Engagement Consultants, managing tasks associated with community engagement and outreach activities, including:

  • Coordination of logistics associated with engagement activities;
  • Note-taking during input-gathering sessions
  • Correspondence and meetings with stakeholders
  • Reporting, analysis, and synthesis of data for presentations to staff and City Council
  • Attendance and participation at staff meetings to develop engagement strategies

The interns will each report for work approximately 15-20 hours per week. The intern will generally report for work during weekday normal business hours (8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.) but may, on occasion, be called upon to assist with community engagement meetings in the early morning, later evening, or weekends.

Qualifications

Applicants from a variety of educational backgrounds will be considered. Applicants majoring in communications, government/political science, and psychology are encouraged to apply.

Applicants should possess strong writing, public speaking, interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills. Applicants should be able to work under tight deadlines with limited advance notice of their assignments. They should have demonstrated experience in working with large teams and managing complex projects.
