MADD Court Monitoring Internship

DUTIES:

1. Attend intern trainings
2. Arrive on time
3. Notify Court Monitoring Project Specialist well in advance if absence is expected
4. Follow MADD court monitoring guidelines while in the courthouse
5. Respond to emails and calls from Court Monitoring Project Specialist in a timely manner
6. Attend court proceedings assigned by Court Monitoring Project Specialist
7. Complete all monitoring forms and debrief with Court Monitoring Project Specialist
8. Assist with new court monitoring volunteer training
9. Data entry
10. Help with other MADD events as assigned

MALDEF Policy Internships

2016-2017 POLICY INTERNSHIPS

Founded in 1968, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) is the nation’s leading, nonprofit Latino civil rights organization. MALDEF is dedicated to protecting and promoting the civil rights of the more than 40 million Latinos living across the United States through advocacy, community education, and litigation. MALDEF currently focuses its efforts in the following program areas: education, employment, immigrants’ rights, political access, and public resources equity.

DESCRIPTION: Policy interns perform research and draft memoranda, attend meetings and hearings, assess legislation and public policy initiatives, and provide support to the regional counsel and legislative staff attorney(s).

DURATION: Fall/Winter/Spring: 1 semester/quarter, 15 hours per week. Summer: 10 weeks, 40 hours per week (Can vary depending on fellowship or work-study guidelines)

COMPENSATION: Generally not available. Interested applicants should apply for public interest fellowships or work study funds through their law school.

Human Rights Initiative Internships

Many students come to HRI seeking internship or service learning opportunities. We have supervised high school, undergraduate and graduate interns along with law students. HRI believes in teaching through hands-on experience and providing our interns with opportunities to see the true nature of practicing law, serving at a non-profit, and working as part of our team.  Our interns work closely with our department directors and provide valuable work to support our clients’ cases.  We would not be able to do our work without them!

Human Rights Initiative offers competitive Spring, Summer, and Fall internships for graduate and undergraduate interns depending on need.  Currently, HRI is accepting applications for a fall Client Intake Internship.  Please see description below.

Client Intake Internship

Part-time (15-25 hrs/wk) – unpaid from September – mid December

Human Rights Initiative is a non-profit located in Dallas, TX which is committed to providing high-quality legal services free of charge to refugees and immigrants  who have suffered from human rights abuses.

HRI Mission: HRI of North Texas provides legal and support services to refugees and immigrants who have suffered human rights abuses, advocates for justice, and promotes international human rights.

Position description:

We are currently seeking an undergraduate or graduate intern (or recent graduates within the past year) to assist our Client Intake Manager part-time during the fall semester (August/September – mid December).

The Client Intake Intern will be supervised by the Client Intake Manager, who serves as the first point of contact for clients and guests who walk into the agency office and those who call the main agency phone line. The Client Intake Intern will be trained to help conduct phone intake screenings, maintain schedule for intake rooms, greet guests and check-in clients at the front desk, and serve as a Spanish translator/interpreter as necessary.

Qualifications:

  1. Commitment to HRI’s mission and passion for international human rights
  1. Computer proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or demonstrated ability to learn new computer applications.
  2. Positive attitude
  3. Problem solving skills
  4. Excellent organizational skills, able to multitask
  5. Must be fluent in English and Spanish
  6. Respect for other cultures and U.S. law.
  7. Responsiveness to individual client needs.
