Interfaith Action of Central Texas- 3 Summer Internship Positions Available!!!

iACT Summer Internships/Unpaid

Interfaith Action of Central Texas, an interfaith non-profit organization, is seeking three interns for the iLearn Refugee Youth Summer Program. iACT’s mission is to cultivate peace and respect through interfaith, dialogue, service and celebration. One of its service programs involves teaching English as a Second Language to newly arrive refugees. iACT’s youth program runs from June 19-Aug. 2 , 2017, at a downtown location accessible by city bus.

Interns are expected to be present during the program, from Monday through Thursday 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. An additional 4 hours a week approximately will be added for data entry, follow-up, or other duties different for each of the internships. These are flexible hours that can be done at any location.

The bulk of the work will involve supervising, tutoring, organizing and leading groups of refugee children, aged 6-18 as they learn English and school skills. Field trips are arranged once a week. Two all-day trips will take place in July.

Overseas Programming and Training Support Intern

About the Organization:

The Office of Overseas Programming & Training Support (OPATS) is responsible for providing training, programming, monitoring and evaluation, and knowledge management support to all Peace Corps programs worldwide. OPATS staff provide support both directly and virtually to Peace Corps posts.

The office is divided into four units: Training, Programming & Evaluation, Overseas Professional Development, and Knowledge & Learning. Specialists in each of these units are engaged in analyzing needs, designing solutions, developing educational materials, and implementing staff development to better support currently serving volunteers in meeting the Peace Corps’ three goals: Helping the people of host countries in meeting their need for trained men and women; Helping promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served; Helping promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.

Duties:

The intern will support primary projects and the work of OPATS staff members. Each staff member will provide clear, detailed, and specific instructions for needed tasks. Because intern work is based on the projects our staff are working on, tasks will vary but may include:

 Development and production of training materials

 Organization, cleaning, and analysis of Peace Corps project data

 Editing and standards checking of publications

 Preparations for events, including training workshops, presentations, and discussion groups

 Research

 Editing of internal intranet content

 Other clerical support (printing, photocopying, collating, filing, etc.)

Qualifications:

 Experience with MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

 Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

 Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Internships are unpaid. However interns are eligible for WMATA transportation benefits to cover the cost of travel to and from Peace Corps headquarters each day

Communications Majors WCA Scholarship Application Open!

Women Communicators of Austin www.wcaustin.org has an annual Jo Caldwell Meyer Scholarship, which is presented at the WCA Banner Brunch event here in Austin (April 8th this year). One student will be awarded a scholarship in the amount of $2,000. Applicants must be a full-time sophomore, junior or senior at a Central Texas university and demonstrate excellence in the study of communications.
