Texas After Violence Project (TAVP) is accepting applications for part-time interns and volunteers. We are especially seeking interns to assist in processing our oral history interviews and work on media projects.
TAVP has different tracks for new interns:
- Oral history track: Oral history interns will focus especially on the creation and management of our oral history archive. A current priority is the processing of our interviews, including transcribing, creating metadata, formatting our transcript collection, and writing abstracts and other copy to accompany interviews. Oral history interns will also engage in analyzing our archive, including identifying and organizing recurrent themes and topics. As time permits, oral history interns may also conduct research on ongoing and new cases, identify and contact potential narrators, assist with interview preparation, and manage narrator database, documents and outreach.
- Media track: Media interns must have specific skills in documentary production and video and/or audio-making, including video editing and/or videography, audio production, and an interest in oral history and storytelling. We need assistance with creating masters for delivery to the Human Rights Documentation Initiative archive; with cutting clips for display in a variety of online spaces; and with producing projects, including podcasts, short videos and multimedia projects. Media interns will engage in the praxis of oral history as social change through their work.
- Interns will also have the opportunity to learn how a small nonprofit runs and help with social media and community outreach.
TAVP seeks new volunteers and interns on a rolling basis. Volunteers may work remotely or in the office. If interested, please write to volunteer@texasafterviolence.org, and send a resume and cover letter describing your interest in TAVP.
