Fall Internship Positions with the Anti-Defamation League

The Anti-Defamation League in Austin is looking for fall interns for each of the following departments: Education, Development, and Civil Rights.

PRIMARY FUNCTION
Under direct supervision, participate in day-to-day operations and projects within the Division/Department/Regional Office in order to learn real-world transferable skills and gain work experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary:
Shadow the respective manager, and designated colleague(s), to gain real-world work experience in, and a greater understanding of, the respective field of interest.
Participate in Division/Department/Regional Office meetings to gain a better understanding of the mission of ADL and familiarity with community service work.
Read print and electronic media on topics connected to the ADL mission.
Under direct supervision, conduct research, prepare memos and letters, and draft meeting minutes in order to gain experience in the implementation of community service work.
Gain a better understanding of field of interest by participating in special projects in the fields of development, civil rights, international affairs, education, community service, management, or other areas of interest.

Secondary:
Provide clerical assistance as needed.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.

QUALIFICATIONS
1.       Skills

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Research skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate commitment to ADL’s mission.
  • Experience in Microsoft Word.

2.       Work Experience:

  • Prior volunteer or work experience helpful.

3.       Education:

  • High School student, matriculated college student, or recent High School or college graduate.

Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies Research Internship

The Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies, a multidisciplinary institute that integrates several centers and programs devoted to promote interest in the region, is the oldest Latin American Studies program in the United States and one of the best worldwide.
LLILAS has an unpaid internship program designed to provide UT students with the opportunity to gain professional experience by learning about the work of multiple programs within LLILAS or to develop research skills by working with some of our most distinguished Latin Americanist faculty. Our institute is a vibrant and fast-paced environment where students will have the opportunity to interact with foreign students, visiting Latin American professors, government officials, politicians, and private sector representatives.

The internship is open to undergraduate students enrolled in any UT college or school who may be interested in pursuing graduate degrees or working on Latin American issues. Interns must be available to work about 10 hours a week from early September 2012 to the last week of classes of the fall semester (schedules are negotiated with the respective supervisor). Fall Internship with Texas After Violence Project

Texas After Violence Project (TAVP) is accepting applications for part-time internships and volunteers for Fall 2013. All interns will contribute to ongoing initiatives in our Storytelling Project, Conversations Project and Culture Project. We are especially seeking interns to assist in the areas of community outreach and media.

TAVP has different tracks for new interns:

  • Media track: Media interns must have specific skills in documentary production and video-making, including video editing and/or videography and an interest in oral history and storytelling. Media interns will learn about the praxis of oral history as social change throughout the semester by working closely with staff on office work/assignments.
  • Oral history track: Oral history interns will focus especially on the creation and management of our oral history interviews. Tasks will include research on ongoing and new cases, identifying and contacting potential narrators, assisting with interview preparation, managing post-interview documents, writing copy for website, and managing narrator database and outreach.
  • Community Outreach track: Interns will contribute to ongoing efforts to develop community programs for our Conversations Project and assist with administrative and programmatic tasks in this area.

All interns will also assist with administrative tasks, social media and event planning.
TAVP also seeks new volunteers on an ongoing basis. Volunteers may work remotely or in the office. Please write to volunteer@texasafterviolence.org if you are interested in volunteering.
