Social Media Intern, Criminal Justice Project

POSITION SUMMARY

Working with a small team and under the supervision of the Criminal Justice Social Media Strategist, the Criminal Justice Social Media Intern, will work with the project team to help create toolkits, generate content for websites, and assist in the rollout of media content in the works.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the design and execution of social media campaigns
  • Create and distribute content such as blogs, infographics, videos and press releases on social media and traditional news outlets
  • Track social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas
  • Support team at live and online events
  • Perform social media marketing research
  • Brainstorm and research ideas for original content
  • Create compelling graphics to share across social channels
  • Write social media captions that speak to the nonprofit’s target audience
  • Help create and edit short-form videos
  • Develop new strategies for increasing engagement
  • Assist with photo/video content shoots

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in humanities, especially communications-related field such as advertising or journalism, or are currently pursuing their Bachelor’s degree and are in their third or fourth year of their program
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent internet research skills
  • Skilled in the social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly known as Twitter), LinkedIn, and YouTube
  • Knowledge of social media analytics software including Facebook Insights, Google Analytics and Twitter Analytics to track audience engagement and campaign performance
  • Experience with content management systems, word processor applications and image/video editing software

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

2+ years’ experience in digital marketing/social media marketing

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The social media intern will report directly to the Criminal Justice Social Media Strategist. This position is a hybrid position (part remote, part in person) based out of Austin, TX. Undergraduate internships at Texas Appleseed pay $15hr, and require at least 10 to 15 hours per week. This is a spring internship, with potential for renewal in the summer and fall.

Fall 2023 Internship Opportunity with the Blanton Museum of Art

Blanton Museum of Art ULN Communications Intern

Fall 2023 semester

$15 hourly wage

12 hours/week, on-campus and remote

 

Ever wonder what it takes to market a museum? This position is an exciting and challenging opportunity to learn about the wide range of communication needs of a museum/non-profit organization AND offers a chance to add real world projects to your portfolio. Intern will help with current projects that promote the museum’s exhibitions, programs, and initiatives, such as assisting with press coverage and social media content creation. Intern may also help write copy for press releases, newsletters, print and web advertisements, blog posts and other communications. Intern will work closely with museum’s social media and PR managers to gain valuable writing and marketing experience, with opportunities to learn more about advertising, graphic design, and media production. ULN students studying Communications, Media Studies, Advertising and Marketing, Journalism and related fields are encouraged to apply. Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice: Summer 2023 Internship

Undergraduate Internships

Rapoport Center undergraduate interns bring energy, engagement, and expanded capacities to the Center’s programming. They will support various initiatives depending on their backgrounds, interests, and the needs of the Center. For Summer 2023, we are particularly interested in interns who have expertise or interest in the Center’s thematic priorities: environmental justice and climate justice, inequality, reproductive justice, among other focal points

Internships are recommended for undergraduates interested in:

  • Working on human rights and social justice research and advocacy projects
  • Learning how an academic center functions
  • Engaging in human rights scholarship
  • Gaining practical administrative experience
  • Collaborating with faculty, staff, and students on human rights research, advocacy, and education

Intern projects may include the following:

  • Maintain websites for the Rapoport Center’s projects and initiatives
  • Work on the publication of the Center’s Annual Review by writing and editing articles, designing layout, and working extensively with the software program Adobe InDesign
  • Engage in human rights research and writing
  • Expand the Center’s social media and general communications outreach
  • Serve as liaison to UT undergraduate community and help develop the Center’s undergraduate outreach
  • Assisting Co-Directors, Program Coordinator, Postdoctoral Fellow, Human Rights Scholars, graduate students, and affiliated faculty with other projects and tasks as assigned

Eligibility: The internship is open to all currently enrolled UT Austin undergraduate students, regardless of major, and is open to UT students of all citizenship statuses.

Required Qualifications:

  • Commitment to working on issues of human rights and justice
  • Excellent writing and editing ability
  • Individual initiative and flexibility
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Professional demeanor

The following qualifications may be preferred in some candidates:

Priority:
  • Demonstrated expertise with publication and graphic design software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Website development experience (including the curation and organization of public-facing digital material)
  • Demonstrated expertise with videography, podcasts, and/or webisode production
  • Demonstrated interest in themes such as care work, essential work, automation, and the global dimensions of worker precarity
  • Demonstrated interest in issues such as reproductive justice and environmental/climate justice
Also
  • Proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese
  • Experience with scholarly research and editing
  • Journalism experience

Summer internships offer a scholarship of $2500, and selected interns should be available at least 20 hours per week.
