Multiple Resource Recovery Internships – Fall 2022/Spring 2023

Description:
Resource Recovery is a department within UT Facilities Services that encompasses both Zero Waste and Surplus Property. Resource Recovery is tasked with improving sustainability at UT, specifically with regards to reaching our Zero Waste goal to divert 90% of all materials from the landfill. Major diversion strategies include source reduction, reuse, recycling, and composting. You would be a member of Resource Recovery’s Student Internship Program. All of our student interns meet weekly as a team to share and learn and create synergy across our work. In addition to assisting with outreach and education events, each Team Member will participate in hands-on waste audits, gaining opportunity to assess campus buildings’ trash and recycling to identify opportunities to improve outreach and education programming. Additionally, Team Members will join a specific Project Team within Resource Recovery’s umbrella of work. See what our project teams have been up to on our Instagram (@utzerowaste). Team members are not expected to have any sustainability background – only interest in learning!

VAC Curatorial Intern // Fall 2022–2023

OVERVIEW

The Curatorial Intern is supervised by the VAC Director and will work closely with the entire VAC team, and specifically the Director, Chief Preparator, and Curatorial Fellow. Primary responsibilities include assisting with upcoming exhibitions, public programs, and

development initiatives. The Curatorial Intern will work with the Director on public programming for Fall 2022 and Spring 2023, including artist talks, conversations and other forms of programming. The Curatorial Intern will assist the Director with development research, including foundation and donor research, creating Excel spreadsheets, maintaining correspondence with donors, assisting with development programming in-person and online.

The Curatorial Internship is a 10 – 15 hour per week position starting Sept 6, 2022 and ending

May 31, 2023. Some work can be performed remotely.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Director with research, writing, and other tasks associated to upcoming VAC exhibitions, including student exhibitions, and the VAC’s artist in residence program.
  • Compile high resolution images and image captions to be used for VAC website, press purposes, and artist outreach.
  • Draft exhibition-related texts, including web texts, copy for social media and other forms of communication in consultation with Director and Curatorial Fellow.
  • Support Director with organization and logistics for public programs, including correspondence, descriptive texts, tech needs, and marketing efforts.
  • Assist Director with development-related research.
  • Work with Communications Director on interdepartmental communications and social media campaigns.
  • Maintain weekly office hours and meet with VAC staff on Zoom or in-person as needed throughout the course of the internship.
  • Maintain weekly gallery hours.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Microsoft Office Suite; Adobe Office Suite; knowledge of contemporary art; excellent communication skills; organized; enthusiastic; enjoys working with others in a collaborative and creative atmosphere.

COMPENSATION

The Curatorial Intern will receive $1500 per semester, $3000 for the academic year.

Blanton Museum of Art AAMD Internship – Summer 2022

 

The Blanton Museum of Art at The University of Texas at Austin has been selected as one of ten North American museums to participate in the Association of Art Museum Directors’ (AAMD) paid internship program for college students from underrepresented communities. The program provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to explore museum careers, receive mentorship in the field, and get hands-on experience for 12 weeks during the summer of 2022, while providing the financial support necessary to increase access to internship participation. At the Blanton, the selected intern will work in the Director’s Office focusing on projects related to institutional priorities, such as the new grounds initiative and Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion (DEAI) initiatives. They will work closely with a mentor—a member of the museum’s senior leadership team—throughout their 12 weeks to ensure there are opportunities for conversation, feedback, direction, and questions, as well as longer-term career guidance. They will also have an opportunity to work with other museum staff from curatorial, development, and marketing. In addition, the selected intern will be provided with two networking and professional development opportunities to meet their fellow interns from other institutions. The internship is intended as a hybrid work model, with the possibility of a full remote model should the University of Texas at Austin or the Blanton be unable to support a hybrid work model in summer 2022. The application is open to University of Texas at Austin students in their sophomore, junior, or senior year. Students from underrepresented backgrounds and groups who are interested in pursuing a career in art museums are encouraged to apply.

POSITION: Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD) Internship

POSITIONS AVAILABLE: 1

REPORTS TO: Director’s Office, Blanton Museum of Art

HOURS: 35/week

DATES: May 23, 2022 – August 12, 2022 (12 consecutive weeks)

COMPENSATION: $6,300 stipend at $15/hour, to be paid in pro-rated increments at the end of each month.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend and participate in weekly project construction meetings and join on-site reviews related to the New Grounds Initiative
  • Attend and participate in meetings related to developing opening events for the community to experience the new grounds
  • Organize digital archive of project images
  • Help develop presentations to promote the New Grounds Initiative to Austin community groups
  • Attend and participate in meetings related to museum DEAI committees
  • Research DEAI initiatives at other organizations, build on museum’s growing archive of DEAI resources, and share findings with Blanton colleagues
  • Help develop short- and long-range timelines for various DEAI initiatives
  • Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
