A Glimmer of Hope Programs Internship

PROGRAMS INTERN

Glimmer works to lift the women and girls of rural Ethiopia out of extreme poverty. Glimmer’s programs team manages implementation of clustered health, microfinance, education, and microfinance projects through our local implementing partners in Ethiopia. We are looking for a Master’s level Programs Intern who is interested in international development or international affairs for the Spring of 2017. You will assist in data organization and analysis and provide support for our programs team activities. Please learn more about us at glimmer.org.

Position:

• Maintain program/project records in our project management database,

• Review project completion documents and photos for accuracy,

• Review proposals and reports from our construction partners in Ethiopia,

• Prepare proposals and reports for donors,

• Communicate with Addis Ababa, Ethiopia office on program tasks,

• Conduct research and other activities as needed.

Commitment:

We’re looking for a Master’s level student (upper level undergraduate students will be considered on a case by case basis) to come to our Austin office 20 hours per week this fall (schedule is flexible). Please only apply if you are located in Austin, Texas.

Fundraising and Development PAID Internship- Black Women’s Blueprint

APPLICATION DEADLINE NOVEMBER 11th!!!!

National civil and human rights organization Black Women’s Blueprint seeks a passionate and savvy intern to assist in all aspects of organizational and campaign fundraising under the direction of the Director of Strategic Development.

We are especially interested to hear from candidates who:

  • Demonstrate an investment in, and familiarity with, the language of Black feminism(s)
  • Celebrate intersectional and/or anti-oppressive ways of experiencing the world
  • Exhibit a keen sense for the details as well as strong writing and editing chops
  • Are able to responsibly participate in dialogue and/or write about sensitive and painful subject matter, including various forms of sexual and/or state violence
  • Understand best practices in digital campaigning and/or community organizing
  • Are proactive yet not afraid to ask for help
  • Would be comfortable and forthright when making cold calls or meeting new people
  • See themselves pursuing a career in issue advocacy and/or nonprofit management
  • Have strong working knowledge of Google for online research and collaborative projects (Drive, Docs, Spreadsheets, etc)

This is a local opportunity for the Austin, Texas metropolitan area. The internship is paid and part-time, 10-15 hours a week. Promotion to a full-time opportunity may be available down the line for experienced candidates. Most work can be completed from home, but the candidate must be available for flexible daytime (9am-6pm) in-person meetings and strategy sessions. Use of personal cell phone and laptop required. Access to transportation preferred, but will provide as needed.

Duties will vary, but as the fundraising intern you can expect to:

  • Provide general administrative support to the Director of Strategic Development
  • Maintain participant and/or donor profiles in our database (will train on our CRM)
  • Assist with the production of compelling and pithy direct mail, e-blasts, newsletters, magazines, social media posts and other fundraising communications materials
  • Assist in the generation of a variety of materials including receipts, donation reminders, year-end tax letters, regular and special reports, etc.
  • Coordinate gratitude/recognition and fundraising incentive programs for BWB constituents and members
  • Coordinate fundraising phone banks as appropriate
  • Research foundations and act on opportunities to increase the resource base of the organization under the direction of the Director of Strategic Director and the Executive Director
  • Work closely with team members in communications and advocacy to align all solicitations with the organizational calendar and current events in the news cycle
  • Provide marketing and on-site logistical support for fundraising events (may require out of state travel)
  • Participate via conference call at the weekly BWB staff meeting (held in our Brooklyn, NY headquarters) on Monday mornings
  • Receive consistent and regular mentorship and feedback from the Director of Strategic Development

Rapoport Center Internship Opportunities Spring 2017

Undergraduate Internships

Undergraduate interns bring excitement and expanded capabilities to the Rapoport Center. Fall, spring, and summer internships are available for undergraduates who are interested in:

  • Working on human rights research and advocacy projects
  • Learning how an academic center functions
  • Engaging in human rights scholarship
  • Gaining practical experience
  • Collaborating with faculty, staff, and students

Interns play an important role at the Rapoport Center, and support various initiatives depending on their background, interest, and the needs of the Center. Primary duties include:

  • Assisting with human rights research and advocacy projects
  • Supporting the coordination and publicity of events and programs
  • Expanding the Center’s social media outreach
  • Providing administrative support for Center programs
  • Contributing written work for press releases, website, and Annual Review publications
  • Serving as liaison to UT undergraduate community (through the Human Rights Student Advisory Council) and helping develop Center’s undergraduate outreach
  • Assisting Co-Directors, Assistant Director, Postdoctoral Fellow, Human Rights Scholars, graduate students, and affiliated faculty with other projects and tasks as assigned

This is an unpaid internship. Selected interns should be available at least 10 hours per week during the semester, and 15-20 hours per week during the summer.

The following qualifications may be preferred in some candidates:

  • Demonstrated experience with publication, design, and website software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Proficiency in a foreign language
  • Experience with scholarly research and editing
  • Journalism experience
