About HealthStart

HealthStart’s mission is to provide the blueprints for building healthier communities through children’s health science education. We teach kids how their body works, what it’s made of, and how this relates to what to eat and how to keep their bodies healthy. HealthStart lessons also teach kids that taking care of one another, and our environment builds community health and wellbeing.

Curriculum Specialist Intern

HealthStart seeks an intern interested in building a healthier future for our children by ensuring our curriculum and other program materials are complete for PreK-2nd grade. By doing so, you will make it easier for schools to incorporate health science into their learning environment. Our Curriculum Specialist Intern will gain experience in curriculum development, educational standards and processes, and nonprofit work.

Development Intern

HealthStart seeks an intern interested in building a healthier future for our children by supporting efforts to expand fundraising opportunities while building a pipeline of potential clients, community partners, corporate sponsorships, and grant funding. Our Development Intern will gain experience in business development, grant writing, research, communications, and nonprofit work.

Digital Marketing Strategist Intern

HealthStart seeks an intern interested in building a healthier future for our children by helping us create a digital marketing strategy to amplify our message and magnify our impact. Internship with Girlstart – Spring 2022

About Girlstart

Founded in 1997, Girlstart‘s mission is to increase girls’ interest and engagement in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through innovative, nationally recognized informal STEM education programs. Girlstart’s year-round programs inspire girls to transform our world. These programs include after school, week-long summer camps, community STEM programs, and an annual girls conference. Girlstart provides After School programs in multiple cities across Texas, Boston, MA, and the South Bay Area, CA.

Internship Description

Girlstart is seeking multiple After School Program Leaders (called STEM CREW –Creative, Resourceful, Empowered Women) to lead our fun, hands-on, STEM-focused After School programs across Texas and the California Bay and Boston, MA areas. Our After School programs meet once a week for an hour (programs vary from 1-1.5 hours) immediately after the school day. The purpose of our after school program is to provide 20-25 girls with a fun, free STEM enrichment program that builds confidence and encourages them to pursue paths to higher education and to discover greater career opportunities. This is a great opportunity to work directly with 4th-5th grade girls empowering them in science, technology, engineering, and math activities.

Commitment & Days and Times

We prefer After School Program Leaders be available 2 afternoons (Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays–limited Friday options), a week to lead 2 programs.* Potential Program Leaders need to be available starting around 2pm on program days; programs typically run from 3:00-4:00pm at respective elementary schools.

Girlstart’s After School Program Leader commitment is 5-8 hours/week. Leading 2 After School programs is approximately a 6-hour weekly commitment, which includes being prepared for the lesson, driving to location, leading the activity, and cleaning up. In addition to the 6 hours, Program Leaders are encouraged to have 1-2 office hours to practice, pack materials, and ask questions about the activity and/or classroom management.

Mandatory on-going training provided throughout position.

*The number of clubs a Program Leader is assigned will depend on Girlstart’s needs each semester.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with kids preferred
  • Desire to empower and educate girls in STEM 
  • Reliable transportation (or valid driver’s license for at least 1 year), driving to and from respective programs is required for the position
  • Comfortable presenting to a group of girls
  • Classroom management skills helpful
  • Proficient using Google Drive apps
  • Strong time management skills
  • All majors welcome (STEM background not required)

American Red Cross Preparedness Internship – Spring 2022

About American Red Cross

The American Red Cross, also known as The American National Red Cross, is a humanitarian organization that provides emergency assistance, disaster relief, and disaster preparedness education in the United States.

Internship Opportunities

The Central and South Texas region is currently seeking an intern to support our Preparedness Manager and Regional Disaster Officer to expand existing work on youth emergency preparedness, the Home Fire Safety Campaign, and other projects. This internship offers the opportunity to gain real-world, professional experience while supporting a national non-profit that is saving lives.

For Spring 2022, we will be focusing on interns able and interested in helping with our Home Fire Campaign, where we install free smoke alarms and provide virtual and in-person fire safety education to families. In this program, there are opportunities for students interested in project management, creating and tracking partnerships, data entry, delivering education, etc.

What you will do:

  • Have the autonomy to choose a project that fits your area of interest/study
  • Become a presenter for Prepare with Pedro, Pillowcase Project, and Be Red Cross Ready
  • Research potential schools, youth groups, & local organizations for future presentations
  • Conduct outreach to schools and community groups to schedule presentations
  • Track reporting of presentations and present to the Disaster Cycle Services team on goals

What you will learn:

  • Manage deadlines and work collaboratively
  • Training via the Red Cross EDGE volunteer training platform
  • How to build relationships with groups interested in emergency preparedness

The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Passion for youth education and emergency preparedness training
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience via enrollment in related BDP course work
  • Prior volunteering experience
  • Availability for a minimum of 10 hours weekly for a total of 180 hours
