Second Day Impact Fellowship

Do you want to professionally do well for yourself and do good for the world? So does Second Day. This organization is committed to putting the best minds to work on the problems that matter. For over a year, they have helped top talent find high quality jobs at nonprofits and social enterprises so they can jump start their social impact careers. This week, they announced the launch of the Second Day Impact Fellowship, open to Seniors at UT Austin, Rice, Harvard, and Georgetown exclusively. Impact Fellows will go through a rigorous curriculum focused on (1) Skill development (2) Industry deep dives and (3) Mentorship. Ultimately, they are committed to working with every Impact Fellow until they get their dream social impact job so that they can start building a mission-driven career as soon as possible!

Paid Position with HealthStart

Since 2010 HealthStart Foundation has been teaching young children the science behind good health. We teach kids how their brain, bones, muscles and circulatory and digestive systems work, what to eat and about the fitness activities needed to keep every part of their bodies healthy and strong. HealthStart’s programs also teach kids that when they care of one another and our environment they help build community health and wellbeing.

Health Programs Communications Coordinator

As HealthStart grows and expands beyond Austin, the Health Programs Communications Coordinator will act as one of our chief ambassadors. You will work with community organizations, businesses, and individuals to identify and recruit volunteers for our programs by helping them understand our mission and our impact. You will assist with program operations and help maintain outstanding relationships with the agencies and organizations that have adopted our programs. You will communicate our learning opportunities and successes through social media and other channels.

HealthStart seeks a part-time, 25 hour per week, Health Programs Communications Coordinator with highly developed organizational, written and verbal communication skills, and passion for building a healthier future for our children and our communities. This position reports directly the Executive Director.

Duties will include: 

  • Community Outreach: Represent HealthStart in the community with businesses, higher education organization, and community organizations. Assist with health promotion activities, community wellness fairs, and other events that educate and raise HealthStart’s profile
  • Social Media Outreach: Develop posts, articles and other content for HealthStart’s social media accounts and newsletter
  • Volunteer Management and Recruitment: Recruit and train interns and volunteers for HealthStart’s program delivery.
  • External Operations: Lead community-based children’s health education workshops at various locations with various community partners. Assist with program content and materials development
  • Internal Operations: Attend and assist with various HealthStart Committees

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree or be in the process of completing their bachelor’s degree
  • 1-year nonprofit experience working with volunteers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (writing sample required).
  • Experience managing and delivering social medial content preferably on Facebook,Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • Work well in a collaborative, team environment
  • Basic computer operations including WORD, EXCEL, PPTX, ADOBE, and Dropbox and G-Suite

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS

  • $1400 per month

Since our founding on Mother’s Day in 2000, the Miracle Foundation has taken a stand for orphaned children. Our “Child First” approach is multi-faceted, collaborative and community-based:

  • 80% of children living in institutions have a living relative. We make every effort to reunite these children with their birth family, if possible.
  • For abandoned children without family — our measurable, systematic method ensures that children are loved, educated, healthy and safe until they transition to a permanent family.
  • We actively collaborate with governments, other non-profits and local family-strengthening organizations to transform systems and give children a voice.

Our interns gain an inside opportunity to learn how to run a nonprofit that makes an impact for the world’s orphaned children.

Responsibilities vary, but are generally in one of the following areas: Office Administration, Development, Programs and Marketing. We do our best to find work that suits your interests and develops your expertise.

  • Our Office Administration Intern will work with our Office Manager to complete various administrative tasks, create process documents, track departmental progress, and more.
  • Our Development Intern will work with our Development Coordinator to plan events, analyze fundraising data, develop fundraising campaigns, research funding prospects, and more.
  • Our Programs Intern will work with our Director of Global Programs and Program Coordinator to input and analyze data, create and improve programs, and more.
  • Our Marketing Intern will work with our Marketing Manager to do market research, assist with creative projects, maintain the website, analyze data, help with social media, and more.

Requirements: We offer both formal (for class credit) and informal internships. Interns are expected to donate at least 10 hours/week of their time and exemplify the following qualities:

  • Global perspective, belief in our mission, and a passion for making a difference
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • High level of computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with effective time-management skills
  • Strong work ethic, the ability to follow through, and a willingness to do what needs to be done, no matter how large or small
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and conscientious
  • Outgoing and enthusiastic, with a positive attitude
  • Professional, prompt, and dresses appropriately
  • Must be older than 18 or in college.
