About the RGK Center and the Dell Social Innovation Competition
Located in the LBJ School of Public Affairs, the RGK Center for Philanthropy and Community Service builds knowledge about nonprofit organizations, philanthropy, and volunteerism, and prepares students and practitioners to make effective contributions to their communities.
In 2007, the RGK Center launched the Dell Social Innovation Challenge (DSIC), an annual competition that identifies and supports promising young social entrepreneurs who dedicate themselves to solving the world’s most pressing problems with their innovative ideas.
Position:
The student technician will assist the marketing team with outreach and communications initiatives for the Dell Social Innovation Challenge.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the marketing team to support communication and outreach for the DSIC
- Collaborate with the DSIC team to execute a cohesive outreach strategy
- Outreach to university faculty and staff through email, phone calls, and in person, including educating them on partnership opportunities and benefits of DSIC participation
- Research faculty, staff, and universities for potential partners
- Respond to email inquiries about the DSIC university partner program
- Respond to requests for DSIC information and collateral
- Suggest additional ways to increase DSIC participation on university campuses
- Provide status reports on university partnerships
- Assist with DSIC events
- Other duties as assigned as they relate to the DSIC
Required:
- Extremely interested in social innovation and social entrepreneurship
- Become a champion for the DSIC
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent presentation skills
- Excellent relationship management skills
- Ability to work individually on a project or in a team environment
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting short deadlines
- Self-directed, requiring minimal supervision
- Other experience/skills as relevant to specific position responsibilities

- Collect, organize and create content for the DSIC platform and social media efforts
- Research trends and news in order to determine relevant topics to drive content creation activities
- Utilize online tools to monitor social channels including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc for relevant conversations and growth opportunities
- Assist the marketing team with monitoring and editing DSIC website
- Respond to email inquiries about the DSIC
- Respond to requests for DSIC information and collateral
- Assist with DSIC events
- Other duties as assigned as they relate to the DSIC
Required:
- Extremely interested in social innovation and social entrepreneurship
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Copywriting experience
- Avid social media user with extensive social media application experience
- CMS experience (Drupal preferred)
- Ability to work individually on a project or in a team environment
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting short deadlines
- Self-directed, requiring minimal supervision
- Other experience/skills as relevant to specific position responsibilities
