Fall Internship Opportunities with Roots & Rhythms

Roots & Rhythms is a cultural arts and music education program fostering positive ties to local communities. Founded in 2008, thanks to an award from the City of Austin’s Economic Growth & Redevelopment Services Office/Cultural Arts Division, the program now operates under the sponsorship of the beautiful One World Theatre Non-Profit.

Roots & Rhythms interns assist once weekly with children in area public schools, typically working with 4th and 5th grades, and get hands on experience working as “teaching artists.” Work assignments may include updating and maintaining website, social media outlets, and photo and video documentation during class time, as well as researching and helping to write grants, and occasionally attending meetings with City of Austin Cultural Arts Division, or grants providers. Work assignments will be tailored to the individual intern’s area of expertise, or areas in which the intern is interested in strengthening skills.

Qualifications: majors in education, anthropology, arts, theatre, music, social justice, minority and/or gender studies. Anyone with an interest in using any of these mediums as a force for social change, equity, and opening the hearts and minds of young children.

Application consists simply of reaching out to me with a CV, current listing of major, areas of interest, and/or minor courses in the above fields, and an informal meeting/interview.

Summer Internships Available at Charity Charge

Social Media Internship with Charity Charge

Making a positive impact is deeply rooted in the DNA of our company. Charity Charge is a Public Benefit Corporation, meaning we pledged to meet higher standards of corporate purpose, sustainability, transparency and accountability. Our mission is to help people give back in a simple, easy, everyday way, to charities of THEIR choice. We are creating a credit card that donates the reward points to any registered 501(c)(3) charity, religious organization and K-12 school in the United States. We have teamed up with Network for Good a leading online giving platform that has processed over $1 billion in donations for over 100,000 nonprofits since 2001.

Additionally, our app will allow you to search by cause, region or non profit, support multiple charities, displaying the tangible, trackable impact you’ve contributed. We pitched at South by Southwest Eco in March and were recently selected by IBM as one of the top ten millennial social startups in the country. This entered us into IBM’s pitch competition during SXSW. Advancing to the final round, the action will be documented in a series of webisodes to demonstrate how the five social startups work with IBM to transform big ideas into big change airing in July.

We are a startup, this is an unpaid internship, but we are young & fun and are putting a positive dent in the universe which is priceless.

Council for Environmental Education Seeks Paid Summer Intern

Council for Environmental Education seeks – Student Assistant – 8 Week Paid Internship

The Council for Environmental Education (CEE) is seeking a Student Assistant for an eight week internship in our Austin office. The Student Assistant will receive a $2,000 stipend for a full-time, 320 hour internship over the course of eight weeks during the summer of 2015. Undergraduate students, graduate students and individuals who are not currently enrolled in a college/university program are encouraged to apply.

Organization Description: The Council for Environmental Education (CEE), a non-profit organization with offices in Houston and Austin, serves as the national headquarters for Project WILD, the largest wildlife education program in the United States. At the national level CEE also administers Aquatic WILD, Growing Up WILD, Flying WILD, and WET in the City. CEE recently completed the updating and expansion of a cornerstone publication: the Aquatic WILD K-12 Educators Curriculum and Activity Guide. Efforts are now underway at CEE on a similar expansion of the Project WILD K-12 Curriculum and Activity Guide, to include new content on environmental issues, additional content on student-centered field investigations, STEM learning, career development, and additional outdoor learning experiences.

Position Description: The Student Assistant will help the Council for Environmental Education (CEE) in updating the Project WILD K-12 Curriculum and Activity Guide. As the cornerstone publication for the Project WILD program, this curriculum helps thousands of K-12 educators each year throughout North America engage students in hand-on activities and projects involving the study and stewardship of wildlife. Updating the curriculum guide will involve the Student Assistant in researching wildlife conservation issues, conservation organizations, and educational standards and methodology. The student assistant will also help draft and edit activities and other texts that will ultimately be published for professional K-12 educators when implementing Project WILD activities.

Throughout the internship, the Student Assistant will meet no less than once per week with CEE staff for a progress report and to ensure that the Student Assistant has all of the information needed to complete the work. The Student Assistant will also be encouraged to solicit guidance as often as needed.

The Student Assistant placed with CEE will be encouraged to be creative and feel empowered to share innovative ways to improve the Project WILD curriculum. By completing this Internship the Student Assistant will gain experience/skills in:

• Writing and editing for curriculum development
• Knowledge of the field of environmental education
• Knowledge of the educational publishing industry
• Researching environmental conservation issues
• Researching trends in educational methodologies
• Preparing reports, summaries, and goals for an organization
• Project WILD professional development training

In addition to completing the above job description, the Student Assistant will collaborate with staff members on a variety of other tasks. With a small staff running several national programs, the Student Assistant will have a unique opportunity to be fundamentally involved with all of the programs, and environmental education as a whole, starting on day one. Participation in weekly staff meetings will provide an overview of the business of running a nonprofit, keep the Student Assistant up to date on staff projects, and allow them to report out on their own projects.

• Knowledge of general office operations
• Detail oriented and well organized
• Ability to use Microsoft Office and Excel software
