Administration Assistant
This opportunity is a permanent, yearlong, 15-20 hour per week unpaid internship opportunity during normal weekday business hours. This position will provide administrative and staff support to the general organizational operations. Working under the direct supervision of the Program Lead Trainer, the Administrative Assistant provides all necessary organizational support and is responsible for a variety of other tasks. Candidate will possess a HS Diploma or equivalent, strong administrative skills, expert using Microsoft office suite products: Word, Excel, Power Point, Adobe, etc. Must be both reliable and dependable with strong desire to see the team be successful.
Graphic Designer
This unpaid internship opportunity will assist various departments with daily tasks as assigned by manager in the areas of branding. Develop designs, concepts, and sample layouts based on knowledge of layout principles and aesthetic design marketing concepts. Develop design and layout for various marketing collateral: including brochures; fact sheets; templates; reports; proposals; headers for print and web-based formats. Draw and print charts, graphs, illustrations, photos and other artwork using the computer. Candidates must be proficient in html; strong written and oral communication skills; proficiency using MS Office, Desktop publishing and ADOBE Design Suite, and the Internet; ability to receive critiques and constructive feedback; Internet savvy; detail-oriented with the ability to adhere to deadlines and a team player with a passion for the underserved communities.
Bi-Lingual Computer Trainer
This volunteer opportunity will assist Trainers who serve as teachers in computer labs. This position is on a semester basis. Works under the supervision of the Program Lead Trainer to assist clients during classes as needed; research and compiles resources for clients (this can include digital literacy resources as well as other life need resources as well); create/improve learning tools (this can include adding to current client resource websites or creating new learning tools) report client learning and attendance in the apricot database; attend and support outreach events. Candidates will possess a BS/BA Degree in Education, Social Work, Sociology, or equivalent. Must have proficiency using all Microsoft Office applications including: Word, Excel, Adobe, and Outlook. Etc. and the ability to teach these skills are essential. Strong commitment to consistent attendance is imperative for the success of the program.
Assistant Grant Writer
This opportunity will help volunteers develop grant writing skills and is Research, write, edit and assist in the production of grant proposals for AFN to explore and develop new grant opportunities. Coordination and track report requirements by funding source and assist with reporting. Experienced grant writer (city, state, federal, foundation & corporate) grants. Navigate grant opportunities assigned including required registrations, documents, applications and forms; Draft applications for review by sustainability team, under strict deadlines; Assist team with grant applications including supporting documents; Provide weekly updates on progress. Candidates will possess BA degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or equivalent required. Must possess exceptional writing, and communications skills, with proficiency using all Microsoft Office applications including: Word, Excel, and Outlook. Very detail-oriented with and is a strong team player who is also capable of working independently and collaboratively.
Communications Assistant
Assist the Communications Department with the following:
- Write and edit content for: press releases, media alerts, monthly online newsletter, website, social media platforms and all other collateral as needed
- Maintain social media platforms for top-of-mind content
- Develop relationships with local and national media, including bloggers
- Work with, and on occasion supervise, volunteers on an as- needed basis
- Create communication-based funding activities
- Organize and produce employee-based and external events/challenges
- Obtain in-kind donations from local businesses
- Produce original content for the organization’s newsletter and website as well as TXC2-run sites
- Update website (in WordPress) as needed
- Maintain standard operating procedures handbook
- Monitor media coverage of the organization
- Coordinate issuance of monthly class calendars and ensure branding of all class-related documents
IT Intern
These unpaid internship opportunities are offered to participants enrolled in the courses or coursework related activities leading to an associate or BS in computer technology. Provide assistance to the Technical Support Manager (TSM) with systems operation, computer errors and other technical support issues. Provide general maintenance, technical support, minor repair work and assist with installing new software/hardware at AFN locations. Perform specific tasks as directed by the TSM. High School diploma or GED; Hold, or currently pursuing a technical certification, for example: A+, Network+, MCTS, or MCSA. Must provide a letter of reference from someone who can verify candidate’s skill set.
