You work well independently AND relish working on a dynamic team. You are socially nimble, dependable, and flexible. You are punctual, organized, & possess a great attention to detail. You work well under pressure and have experience working with others in an outdoor setting (central TX, preferred). You are able to lift 30 lbs and keep up a quick pace doing physical labor on the farm. No farming experience necessary – you will be trained on the job.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Hands-on Farm work: Farm tasks will primarily include, planting, harvesting, and processing produce for wholesale orders and Farmers’ Markets. Other times will focus on farm maintenance including weeding, hoeing, irrigating, foliar feeding, weed eating and minor farm projects such as light carpentry and general farm clean-up.
• Leading volunteers: You will be an ambassador for Urban Roots, engaging a diverse group of community members on the farm and leading other farm volunteers through a variety of farm tasks.
• Assisting with soliciting donations: Assist the Farm Coordinator with soliciting in-kind donations, including landscaping supplies, tools, and compost.

Commitment:
The Apprenticeship will run from January 11th – June 8th, 2017 and we ask that you commit to a minimum of 8 hours per week, up to 12 hours if you are interested. Farm Apprentices work EITHER Tuesday OR Thursday mornings (8am – 12pm) AND Wednesdays (4 hours, time to be decided), and occasional Saturday mornings will be requested.

Compensation:
This is a part-time, seasonal, unpaid volunteer position. Farm Apprentices will receive training in sustainable agriculture and in Urban Roots’ unique volunteer coordination/leadership techniques. Apprentices will also have access to lots of local, seasonal produce.
