Fall 2024 Internship with Candelight Ranch

 Candlelight Ranch Fall Internship 

Fall interns will assist with and learn about Candlelight Ranch’s educational and therapeutic nature-based programming. Interns will have the opportunity to learn and interact with a wide range of at-risk youth and children with special needs. In collaboration with the Program Director and Program Manager, interns will learn how to facilitate educational, recreational and therapeutic group programs. Interns will have the opportunity to practice program development and implementation, event planning, data collection and evaluation methods. All interns will receive a 2-day challenge course training (if signed up before the training date), program training and ongoing training as needed. This internship provides opportunities for a hybrid work environment. Though interns will work mostly on site assisting in programs, there are days where interns will be helping with data entry. As part of your internship, interns will learn, participate and facilitate the following programs and activities with appropriate training and supervision: 

Challenge Courses (High & Low Ropes) – Candlelight Ranch has 3 zip lines, a Canyon Crawl, Rockwall Tower, Power Pole & a low ropes course. Our interns will assist with & facilitate groups, including processing the Challenge Course experience. 

Waterfront Program* – Candlelight Ranch offers canoeing, kayaking and fishing on Lake Travis to camp groups. 

Equine Program – Candlelight Ranch provides hands-on learning opportunities to our clients utilizing Equine Assisted Learning. 

Nature Hikes – Utilizing our hiking trails, clients can explore the natural wonders of our property and learn about edible and medicinal plants of Central Texas 

Nature Art– Candlelight Ranch customizes art projects that incorporates the natural environment 

Nature Therapy and Education – Candlelight Ranch provides opportunities for groups to explore nature and learn about the positive effects that a natural environment can have on mental and physical health. This may include mindfulness, meditation & 

Food Forest & Natural Garden Program – Candlelight Ranch provides educational and expressive experiences that incorporate gardening practices, arts & crafts and healthy cooking. 

*Dependent on level of Lake Travis 

Intern Availability 

Interns will need to be available 2-3 days a week Wednesday-Sunday – though we understand school comes first and are flexible in your schedule. Interns will need to have their own transportation to and from Candlelight Ranch, overnight stays are permitted in the Staff Cabin if needed when working 

consecutive camp days. Interns will spend most of their time outdoors and will be engaging in physically demanding activities. 

Who We Serve 

Candlelight Ranch provides camp opportunities to local Independent School Districts, team building retreats and nonprofit groups that fall within our mission of serving Special Needs and At-Risk Youth. CLR also hosts its own special events serving Special Needs / At-Risk youth and their families and Military Personnel and their families. These events include quarterly Family Days, monthly Military Family Days, Holiday Parties, Volunteer Thank You Events and Fundraisers. Interns will have the opportunity to assist with the planning and implementation of all special events that fall within the time of their internship.
