Austin Family Institute is now accepting applicants for our Undergraduate Internship program.
To apply for a placement in our Undergraduate Internship program, please email your cover letter and resume to apply@austinfamilyinstitute.org. In addition, AFI requires three recommendation letters, one from a professor, one from a professor OR professional with whom you have worked or interned, and a non-family member character reference. Recommenders can send letters via email to apply@austinfamilyinstitute.org or fax at 512-329-6146. We will review those materials and inform you promptly whether we would like to invite you for an interview.
What to expect from an internship at AFI
We are a non-profit counseling/therapy and training institute providing the opportunity for junior and senior students to receive direct exposure to a clinical and private practice therapy setting. Along with extensive clerical experience in a private practice setting, undergraduates are able to participate in weekly group supervision, observe individual supervision with our therapist interns, and view videos of sessions. It is a unique and rare opportunity for those interested in about entering the mental health field.
Require Qualifications
- Must be a junior or senior majoring in psychology, human development, social work, health sciences, or related fields
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Candidates must be available to commit 14-16 hours weekly for the duration of the semester. Mondays 2-4pm are required hours.
Preferred Qualifications
- Detail oriented and comfortable working in an office environment
- Interest in mental health, health sciences, and/or non-profit work
- Ability to prioritize and demonstrate good time management
- Strong organization skills
