Texas Sustainability Graphic Design Internship – 2021-22 Academic Year

Summary: The Texas Sustainability Graphic Design Intern’s primary focus will be on creating graphics for social media, web, and events. The Office of Sustainability endeavors to both educate the campus community on sustainability issues as well as highlight and celebrate academic and operational sustainability efforts led by students, staff, and faculty across campus. The Graphic Design Intern will work closely with our Communications Intern. You may also be asked to provide support for other Office of Sustainability programs, events, and initiatives.

Requirements: Must be proactive and self-motivated. Demonstrated graphic design skills (e.g. using Canva) and creativity. Enthusiasm for sustainability. Ability to work both independently and as a team. Demonstrated strong time management skills and high attention to detail.

Preferred Skills: Experience developing social media (especially Instagram) or other graphics for an organization. Experience and knowledge in sustainability (such as coursework, volunteer work, prior employment). Experience and knowledge in social media graphics best practices for organizations.

Specific Job Functions:
  • Work closely with Communications intern to create fresh graphical content across the Office of Sustainability’s Instagram and other social media channels (Twitter, Facebook)
  • Create graphics as needed for social media, website, newsletter, and for events
  • Ensure graphics are always on-brand
  • Provide the undergraduate perspective on sustainability content
  • Perform other Office of Sustainability tasks as assigned
Pay: $13/hour
Hours: 5-10hrs/week
Location: Some remote work optional, physical office space is in Student Services Building, room 1.302
Start Date/Duration: Preferred start date of late-August 2021. Two semester commitment required. Possibility of summer work.

By the end of this internship, the Texas Sustainability Graphic Design Intern will:
  • Understand how to apply concepts of sustainability to their personal life, the campus community, and globally.
  • Have a strong knowledge of every-day sustainability issues.
  • Improve their ability to work as a team using effective interpersonal communication and conflict resolution to meet the team’s goals.
  • Gain experience creating eye-catching, impactful graphics for social media, web, and events.
  • Gain email writing, meeting, and other professional communications skills.
Career-Readiness Competencies:
As a Graphic Design intern, student will strengthen the below competencies.
  • Oral/Written Communications: Articulate thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively in written and oral forms. By speaking in meetings, strengthen interpersonal communications skills and ability to express ideas to others.
  • Professionalism/Work Ethic: Demonstrate personal accountability and the ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team environment consisting of student and professional staff.
  • Critical Thinking/Problem Solving: Strengthen the use of sound reasoning to analyze issues, make decisions, and overcome problems. Develop and implement creative new ideas about how to engage students and advance the Office of Sustainability’s mission through its social media channels.
  • Teamwork/Collaboration: Build collaborative relationships with teammates. Develop ability to work within a team structure.

Well Aware Internship – Fall 2021

Well Aware currently offers an unpaid position of Social Media Intern. You will be devoted to all of our media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.); this includes assisting in content creation, post scheduling, message responses, and staying up to date on best practices. Social Media Intern must be available a minimum of 10 hours per week.

Overview of Well Aware’s Internship program:

Well Aware’s internship program is designed to provide undergraduate and graduate students with a high-level educational experience in the day-to-day programs and operations of a small, lean nonprofit. Interns are encouraged to ask questions regarding implementation of clean water systems in Africa, community development, training and education in Well Aware’s project regions, development and fundraising work, and organization and administration of nonprofit management.

Interns will be assigned a supervisor that will oversee and guide their experience.

Other responsibilities may include: 

  • Conducting prospect research on individual, foundation, and corporate donors
  • Maintaining donor and grant databases and files, including calendaring deadlines, logging donations, generating and sending donor acknowledgements, logging donor appreciation efforts
  • Supporting staff with logistics associated with special events, including assisting with the creation of invitation list, all logistics, soliciting sponsors, communicating with venue and vendors
  • Attending/Volunteering at special events
  • Tracking and evaluating all development efforts
  • Working with Board of Directors Development Committee to implement development strategies

Ideal Candidates Must:

  • Be responsible, flexible, hard‐working, ethical, and committed to the mission of Well Aware
  • Possess a high level of organizational skills and be detail oriented
  • Possess solid oral and written communication skills
  • Be skilled at a variety of computer skills, e.g., Google Drive, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat
  • Be able to operate standard office equipment
  • Able to handle multiple tasks at one time
  • Possess an interest in a nonprofit career ‐ particularly development and fundraising

Women’s Initiative for Entrepreneurship and Leadership Development – Fall 2021

The Women’s Initiative for Entrepreneurship and Leadership Development – Texas (WIELD Texas) is a career incubator program launched by the Office of Inclusive Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University at Texas at Austin. Work will begin with the program’s inaugural cohort in the spring of 2020.

This program will lay the foundation and provide the infrastructure to guide women from diverse backgrounds into leadership and executive roles in corporate America. WIELD Texas participants will benefit from a combination of professional skills development and personal support, along with an immersive and unmatched experience learning directly from leading executives and entrepreneurs.
