Closing the Research-Practice Gap in Children’s Mental Health Treatment

Description

The Laboratory for Leveraging Evidence and Advancing Practice for Youth Mental Health Services (LEAP Lab) focuses on designing and testing mental health treatments that work in the real world for underserved children and adolescents.

We examine the factors that promote and support the effective use of these treatments, and emphasize research-practice partnerships with community stakeholders in the clinics and schools where most youth receive services.

Qualifications

Required:
-Interest in gaining experience in dissemination and implementation research
-Highly motivated, hardworking, and good organizational/time-management skills
-Minimum GPA of 3.3

Preferred:
-Major in psychology, education, or a related field
-Familiarity with the following software: SPSS, Excel, Adobe, Qualtrics
-Previous related work/volunteer experience
-Access to a car/motor vehicle/reliable transportation

Project Timeline

The undergraduate RA position will be available starting in the fall 2015, with some volunteer experience available for July and August (if interested).

Duties

Observational coding of therapy sessions, Excel data entry, pick up/drop off of lab equipment and interacting with community therapists, assisting with therapy trainings, literature searches, other miscellaneous lab duties

Students should expect to work 8-10 hours/week on lab projects. Course credit is available.

Internships with the Texas Attorney General- Child Support Division

As the official child support enforcement agency for the State of Texas, the Office of the Attorney General provides services for parents who wish to obtain or provide support for their children.

The Office of the Attorney General provides parents with a full range of child support services at no cost. The services are required by federal law and funded by the federal government and the State of Texas.

Children’s Artwork Project – Shared Parenting Program

*creation of a digital library of children’s artwork
*categorization and cataloging images for multiple uses
*creation of an electronic filing system in a searchable database
Intern must complete a criminal background check; intern hours are flexible within an 8 AM – 5 PM business week.

BMI INTERN

Child Support Division – Texas Attorney General 

Internship

Planning coordinates and develops legislative reports, leads the annual business planning process, researches and prepares documents and reports for a variety of users within CSD, including fiscal notes needed during legislative sessions and input to the OAG Strategic Plan and Legislative Appropriations Request.

In addition, Planning:

•Plans and leads Strategic and Business Planning processes division wide
•Forecasts, tracks and reports state performance and federal incentive measures
•Forecasts revenue estimates, collection sources state disbursement unit (SDU) payments processed, and federal incentives
•Tracks the performance and trends of other states for comparable metrics and data
•Coordinates the fiscal note team and drafts fiscal notes
•Provides CSD elements of the Legislative Appropriations Request
•Develops and drafts the CSD business, strategic, and workforce plans
•Drafts and submits reports required by the Texas Family Code
•Performs ad hoc internal, state, and national financial analysis of performance data for executive management
•Assists in annual goal setting to the regional and field office level
•Oversees the preparation of federal reporting data used to ensure data reliability

Intern will train and demonstrate the following skills:
•Assisting staff in collecting, organizing, and preparing economic data for various planning reports and projects.
•Assisting in the creation of a data repository for micro- and macro-economic data.
•Assisting in the review and finalization other deliverables as assigned.

Qualifications
Preferred degree programs (undergraduate or graduate level) are related to:

•Business
•Math
•Statistics
•Finance
•Economics
*Pulic Relations/Communications

Preferred skills and knowledge:
•Basic understanding of economic principles
•Competency in various computer software programs such as Microsoft Office (intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel preferred)
•Strong research and analytical skills
•Motivated self-started able to work independently
•Flexibility and desire to work on varying planning projects

Internship with American Diabetes Association

INTERNSHIP – SPECIAL EVENTS AND PROGRAMS (UNPAID)

The mission of the American Diabetes Association is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of people affected by diabetes. Experience the gratification of knowing your work impacts the well-being of millions of people, both directly and indirectly, affected by Diabetes.

DESCRIPTION

The American Diabetes Association’s Central Texas office announces the availability of two exciting internships –
• Programs Intern: helps with our Por Tu Familia and Stop Diabetes @ Work programs, as well as, health fair coordination and Diabetes Awareness Month activities
• Special Events Intern: helps with our fundraising events: Tour de Cure and Step Out 5K.

These interns will work directly with the Program/Event Managers for the selected program/event and gain valuable skills while assisting with program/event coordination, program/event marketing, promotion, creative planning, logistics, and implementation. Both of these unpaid internships can provide school credit, portfolio- building experience, a flexible schedule and valuable experience in the non-profit industry.

Candidates must be energetic, team players, results-oriented and dedicated to the achievement of personal and team goals. These internships requires candidates with confidence in interpersonal communication, comfort with both verbal and written communication and a passion for making a difference in the lives of people affected by diabetes.
The ADA’s Program internship’s responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
• Developing and presenting health education and promotion programs such as training workshops, health fairs, conferences, and school or community presentations.
• Preparing and distributing health education materials, including reports, bulletins, and visual aids
• Developing, preparing, and coordinating grant-related activities to obtain future funding
• Maintaining databases, mailing lists, telephone networks, and other information to facilitate the functioning of specific programs.
• Collecting evidence data and creating reports to be submitted for review
• Recruiting and serving as a liaison to the ADA’s Volunteers and/or Sponsors
• Working with staff and volunteers to collect/solicit in-kind donations as necessary

The ADA’s Special Events internship’s responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
• Developing marketing plans, including social media and community outreach
• Navigating and updating online fundraising software, website, spreadsheets, and internal databases
• Recruiting and serving as a liaison to ADA’s volunteers, participants, guests, and sponsors as necessary
• Working with staff and volunteers to collect/solicit in-kind donations as necessary
• Maintaining databases, mailing lists, telephone networks, and other information to facilitate the functioning of specific event.
• Preparing and distributing marketing and sponsorship materials
• Coordinating logistics including food & beverage, venue, signage, etc.

Duration: Fall 2015 Semester
Hours: Minimum of 15 hrs/week

REQUIREMENTS

* Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at a college or university
* Commitment to a flexible work schedule of a minimum of 15 hours per week and commitment to at least one semester
* Excellent writing, research and interpersonal communication skills
* Experience with Microsoft Office applications, web and social media
* Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced and time-sensitive work environment
* Attention to detail and accuracy
* Interest or personal connection to diabetes is desirable, but not mandatory
* Bi-lingual preferred for Program Internship
* Ability to lift 35 lbs
