Interning with the IRC gives you the chance to change a life. Forced to flee conflict and persecution, many refugees have survived against incredible odds for years in refugee camps or temporary settlements. They step off the plane into an unfamiliar country and unknown future, having traveled thousands of miles with next to nothing but their dignity and determination.  Interns are an integral part of IRC’s operations and leave with transferable non-profit skills and hands-on experience related to refugee resettlement, case management, immigration services, acculturation, food security, economic empowerment, development and non-profit management.

IRC in Oakland,CA – Now accepting applications for Summer Internships

Annually the IRC Oakland hosts highly experiential internships that demand intuitive, motivated, and professional candidates. Our office is a fast-paced environment that is successful due to both the personal initiative of individual staff members and the team-like mentality of the entire organization. The ideal intern candidate will be able to complete their daily responsibilities and problem solve with minimal supervision and provides support as needed to the overall team. Interns work alongside staff to provide direct services. All leave their internship with transferable skills that can help launch a career within the nonprofit sector. Some internships are more competitive than others, so if you have a desire to work with IRC and are flexible regarding with which department, please note that in your application. Important Dates:

Preferred deadline April 4th. Applications accepted on a rolling basis after April 15th.

Commitment:

All Internships require 15 – 30 hours per week for a minimum of 3-6 month period commitment.

Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice Summer Internships

Call for Applications

Summer 2016 Undergraduate Internships

Deadline: Monday, April 11, 2016

The Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice at the University of Texas School of Law is currently considering applications for UT undergraduates to intern with us during the summer of 2016!  Interns will support various initiatives at the Rapoport Center.  This summer we are particularly interested in candidates with experience or serious interest in publication/graphic design, and in candidates with specialized knowledge of human rights.

 This internship is ideal for students who are interested in: 

  • Working on human rights research and advocacy projects
  • Learning how an academic center functions
  • Engaging in human rights scholarship
  • Gaining practical experience
  • Collaborating with faculty, staff, and students

This is an unpaid internship.  Selected interns should be available at least 15-20 hours per week for 12 weeks between the conclusion of the spring semester and the start of the fall semester.

 The Role of Human Rights Interns

Undergraduate interns play an important role at the Rapoport Center.  Interns will focus on different activities, depending on their background, interest, and the needs of the Center.  Primary duties include: 

  • Assisting with human rights research and advocacy projects
  • Designing and contributing written work for 2015-2016 Annual Review
  • Supporting the coordination and publicity of events and programs
  • Expanding the Center’s social media outreach
  • Providing administrative support for Center programs
  • Serving as liaison to the UT undergraduate community and helping develop the Center’s undergraduate outreach
  • Assisting Co-Directors, Assistant Director, Postdoctoral Fellow, Human Rights Scholars, graduate students, and affiliated faculty with other projects and tasks as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Commitment to working on issues of human rights and justice
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Regular and punctual maintenance of office hours
  • Professional demeanor

The following qualifications may be preferred in some candidates:

  • Demonstrated expertise with publication, design, and website software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese
  • Experience with scholarly research and editing
  • Journalism experience

Texas Advocacy Project Summer Internship

Development Internship – Summer 2016

Texas Advocacy Project is a non-profit organization providing free legal services to victims of domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking throughout Texas.

Texas Advocacy Project is looking for an to assist the development team with preparing for fundraising events and campaigns. The intern will be assisting with major development events such as our Black & White Ball and Teen Ambassadors of Hope Campaign. This internship will provide opportunities to build important skills surrounding non-profit development and event planning.

Requirements:

•Strong written and verbal communication skills

•Self-motivated individual who is able to work independently and takes initiative

•Commitment to the values of Texas Advocacy Project

•Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

•Able to work 10-15 hours a week

Preferred qualifications:

•Previous non-profit development experience

•Experience with Greater Giving or other donation databases

•Knowledge of social media platforms and content marketing

Responsibilities:

The intern will work the Development Team to:

•Assist in the planning and preparation of special events

•Conduct individual donor research, including prospect research

•Track and enter fundraising information into database

•Draft and deliver donor communications materials

•Assist with solicitations to diverse audiences

•Additional tasks as assigned

This internship is unpaid, however college credit is available upon request. This internship will provide valuable knowledge of non-profit operations, how to fundraise, and event coordination.
