Undergraduate Research Grant Available – Apply by 10/25

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH GRANT

Each semester, the Senate of College Councils’ Undergraduate Research Committee administers a $1,000 undergraduate research grant. The Undergraduate Research Grant (URG) seeks to encourage students to become actively involved in research early in their undergraduate careers by providing funding to a deserving applicant. One winner receives the $1,000 prize to be used towards the funding of his or her research. Eligible applicants include students assisting a faculty member with a research project, as well as students conducting independent or partnered research. The Undergraduate Research Grant (URG) is sponsored by the  Senate of College Councils.

The deadline for all materials is Friday, October 25 by 5 p.m. Submit your application in person to Becky Carreon in the Senate of College Councils’ office in a manila envelope, located in SAC 2.102. It is preferred however that you submit the application electronically to senateurc@gmail.com.

Center61 Seeking Conversationalist Intern – Fall & Spring Semesters

Function:
Act as the online curator of content for Center61, our Members, Nonprofits, Social Entrepreneurs, and the greater Austin community primarily through social media (blogs, videos, Facebook, and Twitter). Interns will focus on the 2nd and 3rd goals of C61: Amplifying the voices of our Members and Making Austin a Social Innovation Capital of the World.

Responsibilities:
1)   Blog:
a.    Write about any of the major themes affecting Center61 and our members
b.    Feature Members and their organizations
c.    Coordinate guest blogs from others in and out of the Center61 Community
d.    Target 3 blog post per week

2)   Videos:
a.    Select key topics on which greater focus and a deeper story to be told
b.    Form partnership with student organizations and other storytelling groups

3)   Facebook:
a.    Manage the Facebook platform
b.    Collect and post Member content
c.    Mediate the conversation
d.    Target 1 post per day

4)   Twitter:
a.    Lead the Center61 Twitter presence
b.    Read and post relative articles on:
i.    Center61 Members
ii.    Social Entrepreneurship
iii.    Social Capital fundraising
iv.    Austin Community
v.    Innovation in Nonprofit
c.    Plan and schedule on a batch basis a number of tweets
d.    Cultivate the Twitter community to generate awareness for Center61, our Members, and the importance of being purpose driven
e.    Target 4 posts per day

Undergraduate Research Fellowships Available – Fall Deadline is 9/17

The Undergraduate Research Fellowship (URF) program provides support for specific scholarly research projects conducted by full-time UT undergraduate students enrolled in any department. These fellowships are intended to cover costs associated with academic research projects proposed and written by student applicants and undertaken with the supervision of a university tenured or tenure-track faculty member, lecturer, senior lecturer or full-time research scientist/engineer.

Undergraduate Research Fellowships are awarded in amounts up to $1,000 in fall and spring. University tenured, tenure-track, non-tenure track faculty members or full-time research staff members may supervise undergraduate students in independent research projects. BDP students: If you are planning to do a research connecting experience this fall and will have expenses related to your research, please consider applying for a URF to help finance your research.

Application process: Apply by September 17th for a Fall 2013 Fellowship (spring deadline is January 22nd, 2014). Attend an optional information session on Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in FAC 328 to learn more.
