American Lung Association Health Promotion Internship for spring 2013

The American Lung Association seeks qualified candidates for the position of Health Promotion Intern for spring 2013.

The Health Promotion Intern will assist the Health Promotions Coordinator with basic mission related tasks connected to the delivery of lung health programs in Travis and Hays Counties. The Health Promotions Intern will assist with the distribution of program brochures and materials to physician clinics, hospital, schools and at health fairs, volunteer management/recruitment, program scheduling and delivery and data collection. The Health Promotions Intern will assist with all logistical aspects of mission delivery within the school and community setting. The term will be for one (1) semester and will be scheduled to work for 10-20 hours per week.

  • Assist the Health Promotions Coordinator in program outreach, data collection, and logistics for mission delivery in Travis and Hays counties
  • Responsible for assisting with volunteer management and orientation for mission delivery
  • Assist with recruiting, scheduling and tracking program participation and outreach
  • Will make calls to volunteers, school personnel, and healthcare providers

Job requirements:

  • Full Time Student at the Junior or Senior Level and majoring in Health and Behavioral Sciences.
  • Must be a US Citizen or Student visa
  • Knowledge of community health strategies, as well as having the ability to manage multiple priorities within specific timeframes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.

American Lung Association Public Policy Intern needed

The American Lung Association seeks qualified candidates for the position of Public Policy Intern for spring 2013.

The Public Policy Internwill assist the Director of Public Policy in the distribution of advocacy materials and outreach, providing policy-related assistance during the 2013 Legislative Session and performing requested tasks related to Clean Air Action Network and Smokefree Texas. The Public Policy Intern will also assist the Director of Public Policy with the logistics and research during the legislative session including, but not limited to: monitoring and reporting on committee hearings and floor action; legislative bill analysis; office visits, event organization and volunteer recruitment; environmental health and tobacco related research, etc. The term will be for one (1) semester and will be scheduled to work for 20-30 hours per week.

  • Assist in the creation and distribution of advocacy materials and outreach
  • Assist the Director of Public Policy throughout the legislative session as requested
  • Assist with Smokefree Texas activities and meetings as requested
  • Assist in Clean Air Action Network activities and meetings as requested
  • Assist Director of Public Policy as needed

Performance Goals

  • Assist in the preparation of written statements as needed for public policy activities
  • Provide Legislative Analysis and reports in a timely fashion
  • Attend Leadership Council meetings and volunteer meetings when required
  • Assist, in measureable terms, in meeting participation for Volunteer recruitment, CAAN partner recruitment, and joint Development/Health Promotions meetings
  • Special Projects as necessary

Job requirements:

  • Be actively enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a university government, policy, public affairs, communications, or other related program. Current students preferably should have at least a junior standing
  • Have knowledge of and interest in the non-profit industry and Texas politics
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Possess excellent leadership and organizational skills
  • Excellent people and leadership skills, with an ability to coach, motivate and develop volunteers
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and focus on multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Must have the use of a personal laptop, cellular phone, and vehicle
  • Non-smoker

Mayor’s Health and Fitness Council seeks intern

The Mayor’s Health and Fitness Council, a 501c3 non-profit organization, is seeking 1-2 interns to support 2 current initiatives designed to promote healthy eating and tobacco-free living city-wide.

The MHFC is looking for a highly organized masters student or upper-level undergrad with a professional appearance/demeanor who is hungry for getting their feet dirty in a whole spectrum of community planning activities, and who can perform in the trenches and the White House as an “all-around athlete” in supporting these two initiatives. Intern activities would include meeting with Board and Committee Members, participating in strategic planning sessions,engaging with key community stakeholders, developing and refining communications pieces, event organizing, community outreach, and other assignments as required. This is a 2-semester commitment from Fall 2012-Spring 2013.

In exchange this intern will receive mentoring from a number of seasoned professionals in local government, corporate and non-profit sectors and will finish the internship with excellent connections in the community.

10-20 hours/week flexible and working from home with regular meetings at City Hall and elsewhere.
Must have own transportation, be proficient in Word, Excel, Social Media.
Web development a plus.
English-speaking; Spanish is a plus.

Paid – $500 per semester
