Livestrong (Lance Armstrong Foundation) Internships available this spring!

The Lance Armstrong Foundation offers unpaid internships to current students and recent graduates interested in learning the inner workings of a nonprofit organization. Interns will be paired with a Foundation team member for one-on-one mentorship to gain hands-on experience in their area of interest.

Requirements:

Applicants must:

  • Be available to work 12–20 hours per week during regular business hours at LIVESTRONG HQ in Austin, Texas.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and a high level of computer competency.
  • Be self-motivated, organized, willing to help with any project no matter how large or small and be able to balance multiple priorities at once.
  • Have a strong desire to make a difference, a passion for the LIVESTRONG mission, a positive attitude and an affinity for the color yellow.
  • Be able to provide their own housing and transportation; mastery of parallel parking is a plus.

Internship with Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems

The Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems

Context:

The Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems (CMPBS), established in 1975, is a non-profit education, research, and demonstration organization specializing in life cycle planning and design. CMPBS undertakes projects based on their potential contribution to site, regional and global sustainability and human health, and actively pursues collaborations with associate organizations, businesses and professional firms.

Projects emphasize regional contexts as bases for responsible resource use relative to materials, energy, water, waste, food, and meaningful employment. CMPBS’s expertise is accessible through green planning and design services, conference presentations, public lectures, and published papers. Please see www.cmpbs.org for more information.

Internship description:

Since 1990, the Center has offered a limited number of credit- and non-credit-based internships to qualified young adults. The interdisciplinary approach bridges practical, hands-on work opportunities with individual CMPBS projects that draw on the interns’ skills and interests. Interns from many academic disciplines come to the Center between undergraduate and graduate programs, for a summer hands-on practicum, to fulfill academic internship requirements, or to enhance professional skills relating to sustainable planning and design.

To apply:

Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest, resume, and references at least 2 months prior to the desired start date. Because positions are limited, earlier applications (3 – 6 months in advance) are encouraged. Applicants interested in working with design projects should submit a portfolio in addition to other application materials.

Applicants should be specific about availability; we require a minimum 3-months participation, however, we strongly suggest that applicants plan for an internship period of at least 6 months, as it allows for more in-depth exposure to CMPBS projects. Interns are provided a modest stipend and basic living quarters on-site if needed.

Video Production Team

Cooperation Texas seeks a team of 3-5 interns to edit and produce educational videos about various US worker co-ops for our Cooperation @ Work video series. This internship is for the fall of 2012, with the option of extending the project through the spring of 2013:

  • Work cooperatively to complete 5-10 short educational videos
  • Create a consistent theme and feel for the series
  • Communicate with worker co-ops participating in the project to collect footage
  • Edit footage into 3-5 minute videos
  • Work with staff and event planning intern to present Cooperation @ Work video series at events

Requirements:

  • Education level: Bachelor’s degree in progress or higher
  • Subject/Major: Radio/Film/Television; Marketing; Public Relations; Communications
  • Graphic design skills
  • Demonstrated interest in the cooperative economy
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Spanish-language proficiency preferred, not required
  • Ability to work in a group
  • Computer literate, including Word, Internet and video editing software
  • Available at least 10-12 hours per week

Research & Design Intern

Cooperation Texas seeks a research and graphic design intern for the fall of 2012.

Responsibilities:

  • Research the nature and benefits of worker-owned cooperatives at the local, national and international level
  • Research economic inequality in Texas in general and Austin in particular
  • Craft an infographic on the status of inequality in Austin and/or Texas
  • Craft an infographic that creatively depicts information gathered

Requirements:

  • Education level: Bachelor’s degree in progress or higher
  • Subject/Major: Radio/Film/Television; Marketing; Public Relations; Communications
  • Graphic design skills
  • Demonstrated interest in the cooperative economy
  • Strong written and visual communication
  • Spanish-language proficiency preferred, not required

  • Conduct market & industry research.
  • Assist with feasibility studies & business planning
  • Work with staff on project management
  • General program support for the Cooperative Business Institute
  • Other tasks as assigned

  • Subject/Major: Financing; Business Management; Economics/Political Economy; Marketing
  • Research-oriented and organized
  • Demonstrated interest in business development and the cooperative economy

  • Design marketing materials for events
  • Serve as coordinator on the day of events
