Editorial Internship with Austin EcoNetwork

Join the Austin EcoNetwork team as an editorial intern! This will not be a busywork kind of internship. AEN’s editorial intern will have the opportunity to jump right into the action, writing blogs and assisting in the production of the EcoNews. Although this is an unpaid position, the intern will have the opportunity to accrue bylines, writing clips, and a great deal of experience. The hours are flexible and enthusiasm is a must.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the production of the weekly EcoNews
  • Writing blogs about local environmental issues and events
  • Helping to maintain the EcoNetwork’s monthly event calendar

Who should apply:

  • Journalism/English majors currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
  • Past experience interning at other publications or working for a school newspaper is a plus

Internships available with New Farm Institute

New Farm Institute’s (NFI) mission is to educate, assist and inspire a new generation of sustainable farmers in Central Texas. NFI’s initiatives build upon the education and outreach efforts begun in 2006 by the founders of Green Gate Farms, a community-based, certified organic farm with locations in Austin and Bastrop, Texas.

New Farm Institute, a 501(c)3 created in 2012, provides farm-based education including: camps, workshops, and an Incubator Farm. Comprised of farmers, citizens and community activists, NFI is dedicated to engaging people of all ages and abilities in healthy foods and sustainable farming.

Internship with Refugee Services of Texas

Refugee Services of Texas, Inc. (RST) was founded in 1978 and is a nonprofit social service agency dedicated to resettling and providing social services to refugees and other displaced persons. RST resettles refugees, asylees, parolees, and victims of human trafficking from thirty different countries of origin with the majority of clientele currently originating from Burma, Bhutan, Iraq, Cuba, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Eritrea, and Somalia. Refugees are defined as individuals who flee their native countries due to persecution based upon race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership of a particular social group. RST’s mission is to provide quality services guided by principles of human compassion and dignity.

 

Refugee Services of Texas, Inc. in Austin is seeking an organized and culturally sensitive intern to join its dynamic team either part-time or full-time in its Austin office. Social Adjustment Services (SAS) works with refugees and asylees who have been in the U.S. for an extended amount of time in helping them find and obtain benefits. It is a great opportunity for anyone interested in working with foreign populations or navigating the benefits system in the US. This position supports and works closely with the SAS Supervisor and other SAS Case Workers. This internship can be used for credit.
-Enjoy working as a team member as well as independently
-Openness to take on projects as they arise
-Willingness to speaking to large groups of clients
-Must be able to dedicate at least 15 hours a week to the position
-Spanish speakers are strongly encouraged to apply.
-Fluency in Spanish, Arabic, Nepali, or Tigrinya is a plus. Although, language skill is not a requirement.
