Public Health interns assist with the implementation of Foundation programs as we work to develop a model of care for people affected by cancer that is comprehensive and “patient-centered.” This includes researching and working with healthcare professionals and patients around the country to create a cancer care model that empowers patients and their families and places their needs, preferences, and values first. Responsibilities include: researching organizations and cancer hospitals delivering innovative cancer care practices, communicating with members of the cancer community (academics, researchers, healthcare providers, patients, policy makers, etc.), writing for blogs and professional publications, and assisting with planning and implementation of major symposiums and conferences. This internship is ideal for someone with a strong interest in public health, outstanding organization, research, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be available to work 12-20 hours per week during regular business hours at LIVESTRONG HQ in Austin, Texas.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and a high level of computer competency.

Urban Mining Company Internships (Summer 2016)

Urban Mining Company is a leading US producer of Rare Earth based magnetic materials, used in a range of everyday applications including automotive, electronics, renewable energy and air conditioning sectors. UMC is a young company with a strong R&D background. Current R&D activities include setting up a magnet manufacturing plant in Austin, Texas. This plant will manufacture NdFeB-based permanent magnetic materials using a proprietary recycling technique producing high performance magnetic materials without the environmental penalty typically associated with these materials.

Until the manufacturing plant’s completion, we will be operating in a temporary facility that is predominantly used for laboratory work:  materials characterization and analysis.  We also have a machine shop where we build components and prototypes, and modify existing pieces of equipment. Despite our R&D/science focus, our needs as a company are very diverse, including PR/marketing, legal/regulatory, outreach, and general business needs (financial analysis, bookkeeping, etc.).

Our organization is growing and changing rapidly, and so are our opportunities for interns.  As a result, we are looking for interns in the following general categories:**

PR/marketing

Legal — including regulatory work, and research

Outreach and relationship development

Business assistance — including financial analysis, management, and accounting

Laboratory assistance — help running various machines and setting up experiments

Machining — assisting with machine shop projects, CAD design, and equipment modification

IT — software development and design

**Please note that as our needs are changing, the categories and specific tasks within each category will likely be determined much closer to the start date, as well as on-the-job.

If interested in applying please send a cover letter and resume to Michele Leonelli at michele@urbanminingco.com

Paid Internships at the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Summer 2017

There are two paid Robert F. Smith internships onsite related to collection information management and digital imaging in summer 2017.

Internships at the National Museum of African American History and Culture offer college and graduate students and recent graduates opportunities to work closely with professionals and scholars in the museum field. The museum provides a dynamic learning environment and access to supportive mentors that help interns reach their educational and professional goals. Interns can gain practical museum skills and program development experience in a variety of positions from education to collections to public relations. Internship projects are based upon the need and availability of professional staff.

Information about the internships is here:  https://nmaahc.si.edu/learn/internships-fellowships

Undergraduate and graduate students may apply through the portal on the main Smithsonian Office of Fellowships and Internships:  https://www.smithsonianofi.com/internship-opportunities/
